Sunday November 12, 2006 Hong Kong At TVB's 39th Anniversary Awards, Charmaine Sheh and Kevin Cheng were crowned the "Queen and King of TV." The awards ceremony was attended mainly by TVB's contracted artists. Since the results of the anniversary awards were announced, many fans have led animated discussions regarding the fairness of the award results, such as the "fixed nature" of Kevin's win and the fact that Charmaine won 2 awards. Myolie Wu walked away empty-handed without winning any awards, but she has garned the support, with many fans branding Myolie as their forever "TV Queen" in their hearts. TVB executive Ms. Virginia Lok Yi Ling firmly supports the awards given to Charmaine and Kevin. In a telephone interview, Ms. Lok pointed out that 2 weeks before the awards ceremony, Charmaine was leading with the most fan votes online. Charmaine's votes remained strong and the number of votes split between the actresses were not as tight as in previous years. Since Charmaine led with the highest number of online votes, it was not a hard decision [for TVB management] to decide on the award winner. Regarding criticism that Charmaine received both the Best Actress Award and the Most Favorite Female Character Award, Ms. Lok said that the awards is not a matter of "splitting the pork evenly." TVB employed a fair and honest method in selecting Charmaine as the winner. The awards are not given out to everyone and Charmaine well-deserved her awards. Although Myolie Wu gained 50 pounds to film "To Grow with Love," she did not receive any awards at the ceremony. Ms. Lok responded, "Myolie is still very young. She will have a lot of opportunities in the future. I received Myolie's SMS text message and she told me to not worry about her." Ms. Lok said that Myolie and Charmaine are both "daughters" at TVB. If it were possible to give both actresses awards, then everyone would be happy. But the awards system was fair and Myolie was a very "well-behaved daughter." Ms. Lok continued that Myolie will have a bright future and was proud of Myolie's performance. Kevin Cheng has been in the entertainment industry for 13 years, yet many audience have questioned whether the award was well deserved? Ms. Lok said that Kevin is "TVB's son," but so are Bowie Lam and Moses Chan. Ms. Lok also wished that Joe Ma Tak Chung could also become one of "TVB's own sons." Although Joe has not agreed to become a managed artist, his acting can not be disregarded. Ms. Lok reiterated that the awards were fair and each artist has an opportunity to win. Since "To Grow With Love" was still in the middle of broadcasting when the awards ceremony was held, was this unfair to Myolie [in lowering her chances]? Ms. Lok said that all series broadcast before November 5th qualified in the awards competition for TVB's 2006 anniversary. Ms. Lok continued that if "To Grow with Love" won awards, then the public would criticize it as being unfair, as the series did not even finish broadcasting. Since "To Grow with Love" was still in the middle of broadcasting, they could only do their best to be as fair as possible. It would be impossible to fulfill each artist's hopes of winning an award. I support both of them. Both deserved to win. I'm happy for Charmaine, she's been my long time favourite. I believe Myolie is gaining popularity after TGWL is aired...
