hi there i was wondering if any of u guys can give me an advice on what to do! i got a western digital 500 gb external HD and it doesn't show up on my computers and i tried changing the usb cable and doesn't seem to work and i was wondering what else can i do? the hd is still running just fine and i think the connector is no good! if i remove the enclosure from the hd can i still extract the files from the hd?

  2. click on start, right click on 'computer', go to 'manage', select 'disk management' find your device and format it if you need to, assign a letter if you need to do that. either way it should show up there.

must be something with the connection if it shows up without the enclosure. my friend's external has a dodgy connection and sometimes it doesn't work. it is a right pain.

i dont think that's the case here for the usb controller interface. but i will give it a shot to see if that will work. but my questions is that is if i remove the hd from the enclosure am i still be able to savage the data inside of the hd?

I 2nd that. That is assuming your motherboard has the proper connections (PATA or SATA) for the hdd.

i wonder if he's referring to WD Passport/Essential/Elements/etc. If that's the case, i'm not sure if you can open the external casing (never done it before). It'll be interesting.
