What's your laptop model and brand?

You could try using CPU-Z to see your memory speed.

HP says.. if you type it in correctly.. Just buy DDR3 1333MHz -whistle.. but seriously, just download CPU-Z and check the memory section.

1064 MHz (532*2) is probably the actual speed, and 1334 MHz (667*2) could be what your RAM is capable of, depending on where your looking in the SPD tab.
Anyways, it's likely that your using DDR3 RAM, since the standard for DDR3 memory runs from around 800 MHz to 2100 MHz.

You're looking for 1333 MHz or higher for laptop ram.

So what should I be looking to get? I believe if I get a higher MHZ, it's backwards compatible right?

But I'm confused about the speed to get.

Judging from your posts, you still seem confusing - download this - http://www.piriform.com/speccy

It tells you precisely what RAM is installed on your system ..... noob proof!!!!!

From speccy my RAM is -

As you can see from the TYPE and MAX BANDWIDTH tabs, you can easily tell (can get the same RAM that's installed on your system) so you have to be a total idiot to get it wrong after this.

    The tests shows:

    Max Bandwidth PC3-10700 (667 MHz)

So would something like this work? It should be backward compatible right?

    PC3-10600 or PC3-10666 (1)

    Thanks

Yes, those should work fine, and yes, they are backward compatible.

Keep in mind that there's nothing wrong with running faster memory than your motherboard is spec'd for. If you're running say DDR3 1600 on your 1333 motherboard, the memory will just under clock down to 1333.
