Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) and her husband Philip Lee (李乘德) traveled to Philip’s Hakka ancestral village in Sha Tau Kok, Hong Kong, where they held a wedding ritual for Philip’s ancestors. Myolie married Philip in a lavish wedding ceremony last month on December 28 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. On the morning of January 2, Philip and Myolie paid an official visit to Philip’s Hakka ancestral village of Sheung Wo Hang, where they worshiped the Lee family’s ancestral shrine, as per Hakka tradition for newlywed couples. Myolie was dressed in a long red dress, while Philip had on a red pullover. The Lee family’s ancestral home was in Fujian. After settling in Hong Kong many years ago, quite a few members of the village left for England. Philip himself followed his family to England, but he later returned to Hong Kong for his business careers. In the ceremony, Myolie and Philip went through traditional wedding rites, officially inducting Myolie into the Lee family. The former TVB actress shared, “Philip’s family likes traditional ceremonies. He is also the oldest, so this is a process that we must go through.” According to Myolie, their wedding ceremony was the first big event since the shrine’s renovation. The wedding’s officiator spoke in Hakka throughout the ritual, adding more authenticity to the ceremony. Myolie also did a self-introduction in Hakka, impressing the onlookers. The villagers also performed a unicorn dance, a folk art exclusive to the Hakka people. It is said that Myolie and Philip will not use contraceptives after their marriage, in hoes to carry the Lee family line in the future. “Three babies in a year? Let’s hope so!” said Myolie with a smile. Creds: ihktv
