Hong Kong actress Nadia Chan was sued by her manager for failing to pay the management fees according to agreement. According to China media reports, her manager is now demanding payment of $87,987, consisting of the outstanding debt with interest. She is also demanding for a $1 compensation for the psychological damages. Chaoyang District Court has officially intercepted this case. Madam Li, the manager and also a magazine reporter, claimed to have met Chan over an interview in August 2006 and became friends later. They maintained good media relations and Li agreed to help Chan in liaising and managing her jobs as a friend. March 7, 2007, Chan initiated in requesting Li to help get connections for dramas, commercials, performances and other paid assignments. The actress agreed to pay the latter 20 percent of her reimbursement from the jobs. According to Li, she managed to get Chan on a talk show recording where the latter was paid $30,000 and in turned paid her 20 percent of the receipt or $6,000. Since that harmonious and successful collaboration, Li threw in more effort in getting jobs for Chan, and successfully landed her in a female lead role in Chinese TV drama Single Mother. Li said Chan received $780,000 for the role, and according to agreement, Chan should pay her $156,000. On June 21, 2007, about 10 days into the shoot, Chan received her first paycheck from the drama production team and paid Li 10 percent of it, or $78,000. However, Chan did not make subsequent payment to fulfill the "20 percent agreement", and despite several pursuits, she has yet to clear the remaining $78,000 debt. The manager later brought the case up to court and requested Chan to clear the remaining debt with an additional interest of $9,987. Li said she was pregnant while chasing for the money and her emotional turmoil also inflicted a negative influence on her baby. She is thus also demanding for a $1 compensation for the psychological damages. The case is still under investigation. Source: Yahoo! News Credit: prella @ http://asianfanatics.net/forums/
$1??? Maybe the demand for $1 is being used as a "placeholder" for future lawsuits she may hold against her? I thought that Nadia Chan was pregnant that's why I haven't seen her in any dramas lately.
