TVB’s highly anticipated martial arts drama A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄> will be premiering on August 1, 2016. The 28-episode series, helmed by Jazz Boon (文偉鴻), stars Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), TV Queen Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), Yuen Qiu (元秋), and Philip Ng (伍允龍) as kung fu heroes living in the triad-ridden Kowloon Walled City during 1950’s Hong Kong. A Fist Within Four Walls is Nancy’s first collaboration with Ruco and Benjamin. The TV Queen portrays Tiu Lan, the bossy owner of a hair salon who hides her identity as a highly-skilled martial artist. As a lady boss, she is stingy, cowardly and enjoys giving Chor Au-kuen (portrayed by Ruco) a hard time. She also has a shameless crush on the handsome and heroic Duen Ying-fung (portrayed by Benjamin), who is not only an educated dentist, but also a very skilled Bajiquan master. “We definitely had sparks,” said Nancy when she was asked about her team-up with Ruco and Benjamin. “It was our first time having so many scenes together. Ruco is a very good partner. We had a great time.” Tiu Lan first meets Chor Au-kuen and Duen Ying-fung at her hair salon. Both of them had come from the outside world and needed a place to stay in the walled city. “There’s definitely a bias going on,” Nancy said with a laugh. “Ruco is my debtor. I don’t treat him very well and I’m always yelling at him. We bicker! Benjamin Yuen on the other hand… well, he’s a handsome guy! And he’s a dentist! All my feminine qualities gets released!” But why does Nancy end up choosing Ruco in the end? She said, “It’s like our drama’s ending song, ‘Never Knew You Were the Best’ <從未知道你最好>. We went through a lot together, and the lyrics describe our story. Memories of my character immediately flooded back into my head when I recorded that song with Ruco. It’s a great finishing touch for the character.” As introduced by Jazz Boon, A Fist Within Four Walls is action throughout, and most of the characters on the show have their own fight scenes. The cast members went through two months of martial arts training before production began. “This is actually my third time training martial arts for a role,” shared Nancy. “Maybe it’s because I’m a dancer, so I tend to get casted in action-packed roles. I learned Muay Thai [for Gloves Come Off <拳王>] and this time, I’m learning a different style of kung fu. It’s a lot flashier.” (But will you be able to show off your feminine qualities?) “I think my period costume look is okay. Once I step into the set I feel like I’m a Barbie in a Barbie house.” “A Fist Within Four Walls” Clip – Chor Au-kuen vs Tiu Lan Creds: Oriental Daily
