hmm.. ok. So i downloaded this movie called - China Strike Force - 雷霆戰警 and its 1.00GB and its a .avi file... i was wondering will i need to split the file so it will burn onto a dvd disc or will i need 2 disc for this cos the movie is too big??

I use nero to burn movies onto a disc

The dvd disc i got is:
    120 Minutes Video
    4.7GB DATA
    1-4x Cert Speed

if so.. any links to do this.. and a trail usually does 50% or something??

cos earlier on i tried burning a movie and its only 626MB and towards the end... nearly finished burning it gave me a error message saying something like there's no room on the disc??

uh . lets put it this way. dvd holds 2.5 hours of movies. Nero doesn't burn movies, you'll need a program such as clone dvd. Also your movie has to be in DVD format, (IFO , VOB) before you burn it. You'll need a decoder or something similar to reecode into MPEG-2

As knoc said, 1gig on 4.7gig DVD is no problem. Burn it as a data disc using nero and you'll have no problems.

If you intention is to make it play on standard DVD players, then you will need to convert the file. A 1gig file for a full movie is most likely divx. A popular program is WinAVI which can change it into a normal DVD format.

And of course, one stupid thing... make sure your burner is a DVD burner ;)

convert to DVD using winAVI and in advanced settings put the output size of the file to be 4700mb and then burn the dvd file to dvd using nero

when you use nero doesnt it convert for you... it converts and creats DVD structure files for you, and you just need to select the file and burn it...
    hmm.. i dunno??
but i've tried previously... i didnt convert or anything. I jus opened nero and made a disc on nero and just add the file and it works fine. And the movie are .avi file extension and they all below 1GB and some of the movies that i burned are all working fine and can watch them onto a dvd player (downstairs). But then again some of my movies wont fit onto the disc apparently?? But it SHOULD be able to.. like most off you said here. 1GB - movie and the dvd is 4.7GB.
Maybe when im burning movies using nero im doing the process wrong?? Cos when i open nero i click on "Make a dvd" and then its some kind of a project where there's menu there.. but the movie still plays.

EDIT: btw, im using a trial version of nero 7... Is this the problem you guys think?? And if anyone does have the serial number to this. Please could you tell me! PM me!!

    Thanks for the help!

nero 7 has been known to have random issues..either switch to nero 6..or..here are some serials for nero 7:

ok what kinda files are you trying to burn?

Are you buring dvd video file ie VOB?
Or are you burning the AVI file onto DVD so you can watch it on PC later or something?

For the latter, open nero smartstart and choose data ----
Now choose 'make data dvd' and follow the instruction *add your file and burn*

Now if it gives you a error saying the file is too big
Choose data again but this time choose *make UDF DVD* and follow instruction

    It should work

Well you have a few options. I will try to explain it, and warning in advance - it might be wrong because I don't have the actual software or my own computer to refer to. I'm refering to my memory -lol

You can convert it in to a DVD format using WinAVI. And I believe there is an option there that allows you to select how big the output file is, so just set it to a little under the actual disc-size (including quality etc.)

You can also convert it into a VCD format using WinAVI. Again, there is an option that lets you select how big the output file is, and if it will surpass that, the program will automatically split it into numerous files (most likely two in your case).

Once you have your output files, you can use NERO to burn them. Just select the type of disc it will be (DVD or VCD) and then add the files that you just converted.

Now burn it and enjoy :)

Hopefully that information is accurate, because again, I just have my memory to refer to.

'make data dvd' - but it says that it will only play the disc on the pc but i want them to play onto a dvd player (tv)...

well at the moment im converting that file to a VOB file from a AVI file using winAVI

cos earlier on i tried to put on a disc.. but it was elapsing and wanst doing anything... it wasnt transferring onto a dvd. It jus stopped.

^ i dont understand, does winavi stop?

Convert the AVI to DVD VOB files with winAVI.
You will get a folder containing a further 2 folders, video and audio.
Open nero and choose burn dvd video files
Open the video folder and drag and drop all the files into the appropriate column
    Burn
