I need to get a laptop for my cousin who's coming from abroad to study here in Canada. I'm not too familiar with laptops so any brand recommendation//help would be great. Its main use will be for school, internet browsing, fbing and casual gaming. Budget is around 400-800 and no netbooks!
Personal preferences? Some people prefer thin laptops, keyboard type, blu-ray or dvd-drive, LED or LCD, resolution, battery life etc. I think any laptop in that price range would be fine, it really comes down to the small things. WHat do you mean by casual gaming? Dota or like COD? If gaming is something that you are keen on, I'd get one with the Optimus technology crap. Switches from dedicated to integrated graphics to save power when you aren't gaming.
I think he wants a lightweight laptop because he'll be carrying it around to school a lot. He doesn't play many games, probably dota but very rarely. Budget is upped to 800. Not quite sure what he wants besides that... I found this, it's on sale and has a webcam, probably something he would want - to cam with his friends/family back home - http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=58585&vpn=X52F-X3&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1097
just a recommendation don't get hp. those machine can get pretty hot. my sister has one and my gf has one, and both of them they can't keep it on their laps they have to have a table and a cooler to cool it down. i would choose dell over hp anytime.
NCIX is an online store lol. That's an Asus in his link. Yeah, I've yet to hear good things about them. Only horror stories. Honestly, your cousin should just go to the stores and actually hold the laptop. At that price range, there isn't a bad one per say. It all comes down to small preferences.
I've looked around the site.. like this one here : http://ncix.com/products/?sku=58005&vpn=Entre-Q630&manufacture=NCIXPC Entra series Its an NCIXPC.. it says using AMD parts. Jus wondering if later on.. when i replace my computer.. are NCIXPC trustable? Cause im pretty sure that link i provided is a better deal than Dell.ca.. comparing quicklly ONLY price & CPU for now.
It's just a computer built by NCIX. You can buy the parts and build it yourself usually. That computer you posted is really basic.
Problem is.. i dont KNOW how to build one. I tried learning.. but its difficult + my budget is really limited. Not high enough to build an extreme good one. but those cpu are trustable right? Not like those e-machines shit. Good enough to use for a few years?
^ Remember non-tech folks. CPU != PC. A CPU is a component that processes calculations in a PC. A PC, or a computer, is the actual machine with all components assembled, including the CPU.
cpu = computer Sorry for the confusement.. but its just my shortform of typing computer -lol But again, are they trustable & wont break down in a year? Thinking of buying it from that website the next time i'll be getting a computer. Seems cheaper.. but the price:spec ratio seems better than what i can see on Dell.ca most of the time i think.
I can tell you what you should not go for ^^ Sony = overpriced HP = lots of problems aka wifi, heat, performance, also support is really rubbish Acer = if you are lucky you will find a decent model, but that requires some more research Noname = Well...that's just my opinion Dell suppose to be alright, they have a good customer service (in UK at least), my fav. brand would be Toshiba, my 6 year old laptop survived 4 newer follwing models of the brands shown up there.
trustable and won't break down? who knows...? probably have to try it yourself or go with main brands.. or ask a friend to build you a computer with good parts..
Lol. Spend like 600$ to try it. The best is to survive a few years or so. Worse it'll be less than a year. Dell isn't bad.. is just that somethimes they're overpriced so you'll have to keep looking at their website of good deals. Or sometimes you gotta go into Wal-Mart or something.. go to electronic section and look at the computers. The computer im using now was around $300+tax with a widescreen monitor Dell. 4 GB ram, Dual Core with DECENT graphics (not good enouf to game on high options). Every now & then.. imma just keep looking at sales.
Just keep looking for sales item if you're not in a rush. Try to find the best deal you can. Go with branding if you can't build a computer.
