New Japanese immigration procedures for foreign visitors to Japan All foreign travelers and visitors to Japan will face new Immigration procedures coming into effect in November this year. The new procedures will involve taking fingerprints and photographing which might upset some visitors not used to the practice. According to the Japanese government it’s for security reasons and the global war on terror. It is not quite clear if the requirements also apply to foreign long term residents of Japan. According to the Japanese government video, visitors who refuse to comply will be refused entry into Japan. Japanese visitors to the US and some other countries already face this type of fingerprinting and biometrics requirement. Basically, the Japanese ask ya: - To get a picture taken <_< - Give them ya finger -devil - Get strip searched ... ehhh ... just kidding Gee, yet again new rules to make visitors uncomfortable!!!
whooo....great rule (not!) =P I u see those ques at immigration now already...how about after the new rules....hope they have taken precautions like adding capacity.... and hope they will properly test all systems....before it will get into chaos in november '07. I thought china was taking the same (Repercussive) mesures to US residents as the US has to chinese (and all others) = fingerprinting and fotographing.....anyone who can confirm this?
Yeah no big deal, HK already has my pic and fingerprint taken and I expect more countries to follow this example of the States. (as a repercussive measure or not)
HK does not fingerprint and photograph visitors....just (permanent) residents with ID cards. Japan is planning to do this checks on nonpermanent residents of japan. In the netherlands, irischeck is an premium option for travellers who wants quick immigration clearance. so u even have to pay for these high tech immigration checks -lol
hmm.. how inconvenient will it be? i dun reli mind.. edit: maybe it does help identify the deceased especially in a mass disaster.. considering tat they wouldn't hav ur fingerprint in their database..
pictures and finger printing ... that's going to be a long line. oh well ... everything any countries' airport is doing can claim it's for the war against terrorism.
....anyway I don't care as I don't think it will cost me that much time. And like Xiaojie said, it can help to identify people in case there's a big disaster like an earthquake, tyfoon etc.
Good immigration records are always good....a country needs to know who's in for how long and so.... more and more passports have chips with digital photo's ...why hassle with taking new ones, just download the existing one when reading out the content of the chip during immigration clearance..... wasn't HK about to experiment with frequent visitors passes with chips....
