this thing is beautiful.. machined from a single block of aluminum. I only have two beefs with it.. one is that it costs 300 dollars more than the equivalent Dell XPS M1330, and the screen is ridiculously glossy. As one digger commented 'how would you like to be wackin off and see your reflection staring back at you' I'l definitely be waiting to see whether the first generation has any major problems before picking one up, but i'l also be debating whether or not it might not just make more sense to get an XPS... for the same price i could get a nvidia 8400m gs, 4 gigs of ram, same processor and more HDD space. I suppose if i really wanted i could dual boot into OSX too lol. Are aesthetics worth a 300 dollar premium to you?
it looks ok to me, really lost that "macbook" look lol, but definitely a better machine than before. alternatives include the m1330 but i've been looking into the lenovo ideapad u330....some nice/novelty features (facial recognition technology etc.) and nice/simple design. i think it's usually for sale under $1000...
i was actually sitting next to a co-worker and we were discussing whether he should buy it or not and he bought the 15" @2.8Ghz with the 320GB@7200 and included the minidisplay to dvi adapter which came out to be like 2930? something like that and he got like a developers discount and got it for 2200 something -shock what a deal.......
it depends whether or not apple shaved corners on that machine... honestly, apple's always been quality on top of the styling, so if the new macbooks are solid, the $300 extra is worth it for styling and lack of headaches...
currently apple has engineered greatness... even got me looking at the specs for it on their site.. =P
the new one will be selling at 1299, whereas the old white macbooks will now retail for 999 since you're in the UK though, your still gonna get raped by the pricing due to the fact that apple doesnt convert their prices over to the pound exactly the same as what it should be in american dollars.. and VAT in the UK is crazy lol I'm definitely leaning towards buying one... but imma need to see one in person first to see how bad the screen glare is
^ i think you'll lose alot of features by changing the OS over with this laptop... since the multi touch trackpad is designed for use in OSX
^ Nope, you can download this software on the internet to adjust the pad But yea, it still would be alot of hassle
they do usually have some sort of discount every september maybe like a free ipod with your purchase or like 100 bones off
^ the motherboard is tiny eh... they are using a unique NVIDIA chipset which is supposed to be pretty slick
