As I was looking at some recent post Hurricane Sandy photographs that detailed the damage sustained by the New York City subway system, I was wondering how the suspected hundreds of tunnel dwellers fared? Tall tales of subway tunnel denizens, sometimes referred to a 'mole' people, have persisted as urban legend for years. In fact, such an idea has even spawned horror movies based on their existence, whether real or imagined. Supposedly after 911, out of security concerns, the MTA had flushed out the system of any remaining trespassers, but rumors persists of people continuing to inhabit the darkness down there. At any rate, I wonder if they're finding any of these supposedly inhabitants as the MTA goes about every nook and cranny, inspecting and repairing the subway? I'm sure that if they find dead bodies there, the MTA wouldn't be so quick to publicize it either.

I'm sure there are some but maybe not where the hurricane hit. There's more desolate areas I'm sure.
