Produced by Nicky Wu (吴奇隆), the Chinese xianxia drama series The Legend of S <蜀山战纪之剑侠传奇>, previously known as The Legend of Zu, is finally coming to television after a successful online broadcast last year. The fantasy drama, which stars William Chan (陈伟霆) and Zhao Liying (赵丽颖), premiered on Anhui TV on Saturday, January 16. It then premiered on Jiangsu TV on January 17, and is slated for a primetime premiere on Jiangxi TV on January 26.

The Legend of S first premiered on the iQIYI video platform on September 22, 2015, airing ten episodes a month. It was a paid broadcast. The series is based on an unfinished dark fantasy novel titled Sword Warriors of Mount Zu <蜀山剑侠传>, written from 1930 to 1949. The novel was first adapted into a Hong Kong film by Tsui Hark (徐克) in 1983, and then into a Hong Kong television drama by TVB in 1990.

The 2016 Chinese adaptation stars William Chan as the lead character Ding Yin, who is suffering from amnesia and becomes involved in the pugilist underworld. Zhao Liying portrays his love interest Yu Wuxin, the daughter of the villainous Green Cape, portrayed by Nicky Wu.

Despite having a prolific acting career, Green Cape is Nicky’s first attempt at portraying a villain. “After so many years, I finally got the opportunity to play a bad guy,” said Nicky. “Since no one wanted to cast me as a bad guy, I’ll cast myself as one.” Nicky is also the producer of the series.

The 54-episode drama will air its last set of episodes on February 22, 2016 on iQIYI.
