I don't know if anyone else out there has any weird behavior the same as mine, but I have a problem with my kettle, actually any kettle for that matter. My problem is everytime I go to boil some water I must see the indicator light go off before I can pour any water. So if I turn the kettle on, but I go do something else while the water is boiling and the light goes off when I'm not there, I have to turn it back on until I see the indicator light go off. It drives me crazy cause I know that the water just boiled but I can't stop myself from turning it back on!

Is this type of behaviour normal/healthy or is there some mental/medical message I'm not seeing? -unsure

^ yeah..i think you're right. my friend, she has this thing where she always has to have the volume at an even number.

  6. i used to check my pulse every 15 mins when i had anxiety disorder it would freak out my friends mwhaha. I dont do it as much now but its an urge.

i have a problem with things being uneven, small simple things i can do to balance it out. most of it happens only when i think about it or when im alone. i normally dont do it around other people. Example : If i count to 7 i'd have to count to 8 (in my head if there are people around) to balance out the odd number and make it even. If my right hand was wet i'd have to wash my left hand to even it out but the left side i consider uneven so i'd wash my left hand again then my right to make it even but sometimes i think there is not enough water on my other hand that makes it uneven so i repeat until i think i get enough to even it out. Anyways i can sometimes spend an extra 30secs - 1min doing this to balance things out. this goes for when im walking on the street. If i step on a slab of stone and my right feet touches it and my left one doesn't, it would be considered uneven so i'd have to find another slab of stone that only my left foot would touch to make it even, sometimes i have to skip across square slabs to avoid touching for the power of balance!

this goes on for a zillion other things but they are too long to explain most important is that it doesnt bother me much , i like to even things out! =)

This is my latest obsession thats happened over the last few years, and I don't want to tell you my earlier ones. >.<

Our office actually has a hot water tank which reboils itself, there isn't any light to indicate that the water is boiled, actually its one where the water is hot all the time, but you can still hear when the water is reboiling and filling its its own tank, I kinda wait to hear the sound then I pour the water. I try not to make it too obvious. Subconsciously, I think if I don't hear the sound or see the light go off, I don't think the water is hot enough.

It only bothers my mum when the electricity bill comes! :(

Seems like quite a few people in the forum have problems similar to mine. At least I know its not that unusual. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and force myself to drink the (not so boiled/hot) water.

I happen to be reading a magazine today which had a scoop on this type of behaviour, one lady said she would try on an outfit and look at herself in every mirror in her house, if she changed her mind, she would start the process again! Another said that she had recarpeted one room, but where the old carpet and new carpet meet, she cannot stand on that gap, she has to jump over it. These people, like me and a few of you, obviously know what they're doing but cannot stop themselves.

  19. dw... i'm sure the kettle can't make that much of a difference on the electricity bill unless u reboil the water every 5 min...

my bf got heaps of OCD... he always have to recheck his car doors at least twice before he walks away... n he never let anyone put socks on his bed...

According to my psychology teacher, OCD is due to a lack of a kind of chemical called Serotinin inside the brain. To him, it's actually all right provided that your habits are minor, and not interferring with your daily life.

I think you needn't worry about it too much. I know people who suffer from OCD that have habits much worse than yours. As long as it isn't causing you or those around you any harm, you should be fine.

If it frustrates you too much though, I think seeing a councelor or psychologist might help.
