I was watching basketball, reading about the debates, but skill wise, there is no one close to Nash / JKidd, in fact, I think Nash is one of the BEST PGs to ever play the game of basketball, let alone in the NBA. The amount of years, performance level for his age, skill set, % is just hard to ignore. Yet, you have kids raving about CP3, ROSE, DWILL, RONDO. *My god, RONDO's %s are pathetic ! * No skill there, because you cannot fake FT %, let alone anything else. A lot of people rave about Rose's stats, but his BBALL IQ is still young and he has not displayed the same mentality of other PGs. I suppose the MVP Nash won was VERY deserving. If I had to, I think Nash is a Hall of Famer and one of the best PGs ever; in fact I think he is the best. No other PG/G has shown his ability to handle the rock w/ both hands, pass the way he does, and shoot the ball like him. Look at his AGE! I hope this clears up bias praises for the obvious younger guys. Yes, this precedes Magic.
uhm... i dunno... John Stockton maybe? Or how bout Oscar Robertson... u know... the ONLY player to average a trip. double? I don't see how you can put Nash > Magic... I mean... Magic only has 5 more rings than Nash... Nash is great, I won't deny it... easily top 10, some can argue top 5... but to be honest, part of Nash's success is thanks to the system in place in Phoenix... I mean, it makes sense when you play so up tempo, but Nash can't play any d at all... he gets burned by atleast 25 other starting points in the league... I make a claim that Rose currently is the best PG... and I sit by it because w/o Rose... Chicago would in no way be close to playoff contention... he should be MVP this season, CP3 deserves very close consideration... But Rose has the Bulls 3 games out of first in the East... he's more valuable than any other PG out there RIGHT NOW... Nash is playing .500 ball... good for not making it into the playoffs... especially in the west... So if u wanna say Nash is one of the greats... Sure, I totally agree, the guy should eventually make the Hall... but if ur gonna tell me he's one of the best right now... no... and I'll shut u down every time u try to tell me that because his team isn't winning...
I agree with Aoes sure Nash is a very good pg he is doing it for a lot of years. So for now and the future you can't compare nash to rose or paul that is because they are from another generation. But if you watch on the perspective of how nash contributed to the league and basketbal in general you can say he is in the top. With idd Stockton and Magic. in about 10 years we would have the same discussion about Rose, Paul, Williams or Rondo. and in about 15 years we can throw Wall in the mix. For now the best pg in the league is between most of the pg that is voted to be this years all star my pick is still williams but that is me....
John Stockton John Stockton was a way better defender and awesome at steals while being consistent throughout his career Nash is a weak defender and thats a big flaw Rondo can't shoot for beans and needs to round out his shooting game but otherwise he's pretty good esp at the defensive end Rose will be a top 5 hall of fame if he can keep doing what hes doing
right now if i had to pick a PG, it would be in this order: Chris Paul Deron Williams Steve Nash Derrick Rose Russel Westbrook In fact, Nash is in my top 3, he is doing what i like, the fundamental of basketball: pick and roll He lost Stoudmire but his stats are still the same, would Rondo still have his assist average if he didnt have the big 3: Pierce, Garnett and R. Allen in his team ? I dont think so And i think he deserves a spot in the top 5 all time pg list
stats really don't mean very much... especially in Phoenix... I would say any of the top 10pgs in the league right now would easily dish 9+asts as the starting PG of the Suns... their system is just too stat stuffingly friendly on the offensive end...
I will give chance to newer generations because it is OBVIOUS they should be better, and it's been proven that future draft classes does nothing but 'elevate' the game !! Science goes behind that a lot, but I don't think ROSE is that of a point guard, let alone Rondo. They might have amazing stats, but their skills, IQ, and experience still needs A LOT OF YEARS to be productive. You have a case w/ MVP for Paul/Rose, but their basketball skill set, IQ, is not even close to Nash/Kidd's precision, vision. You know this, despite how much stats Paul/Rose piles on.
Look how scary that is, w/ an older guy ! I'm not gonna pretend and act like I know 70s, 80s bball, but despite what Magic Johnson did, his career cut short of himself and shouldn't be viewed on the same level, but the DREAM TEAM was just so DOMINATING !!! If I were to rank PGs to my eyes/experience: 1) Nash 2) Kidd 3) Magic Johson 4) Chirs Paul 5) Stockton tied w/ A LOT OF GUYS lol..
i cant rank in the all time pg list because ive never seen magic johnson play and even stockton ive only seen him when he was in finals against jordan hahaha i couldnt afford to watch nba, tv was crap at that time in my small country
Top of the list without a doubt has to be Magic Johnson. The guy has the second most triple doubles in the NBA ever, and doing it in only 13 seasons. What about the fact he's 6'9". He was a night mare to guard when you're at least 5" taller than the average Point Guard.
stockton has more stock than that... you got magic in the wrong place too. of course, this is only my opinion.
