In a country that have that many people, I don't think it is an option actually. Either controling population grow or risk having major starvation across the country. However, a One Child Policy do not come without major social problem.

    I've read about this before.

I mean it was a good idea to restrict families into only having one child but it wasn't practical. The families would all want to choose the boy not the girl. So its going to turn into a big problem because then all these boys are going to grow up with no girls to marry.

I read an article before about how there's like millions more boys than girls in grade school right now. in about 15 years, there's gonna be a huge imbalance. those boys will have to remain bachelors for the rest of their lives or just turn to each other. and those "unwanted" girls are going to become very valuable.

personally i think its better than our population running out of food and starving to death

of course it has cause problems like aborting female childs and such, but i think it had to be done

dont they have that thing where they give out incentives for having girls like extra benefits and free education or what not...?

i watched a video about this in cultural history last year. the narrator said the government will pay a sum of money if the couple only have one child. i forgot how much.

i did like a whole term on this before in geography A-Lvl

China did something that no other country could have done as since its communist country ( if a was a country like the us or uk, where the population was allowed to vote it wonuld not have been possible is implement such a scheme since its not a communist country), its because of this scheme that probably helped china to advance so quickly economic wise ...

but there are disadvantages like some countries think this is against human rights and the population there are more tradition so favour boys more than girls so imagine the impact it will have socially if their child was a girl ....

but the government in china arent stupid :p since they know the population will be against this so benefits of having a one child was introduced such as grants etc

They were most strict during the early years but as the years passed where china's economy was starting to show result they become less strict towards this policy

hmmm .... thats all i can remember for the time being, i see if i can find dig up my notes on this i used to have detailed notes on this from a few years back, but i might have burned them already -lol ok i c if i can dig up anything :)

i think basically this doesnt apply in the countryside (or it does and doesnt in the city) one or the other.
also i heard it your 1st child is a girl you are allowed another child

I agree. China would go out of control if everyone had as many children as they wanted to.

  12. now days rules might not be as strict... if u have enough $$ to pay for the fine u can have as many kids as u like... but back then rules were VERY strict... u need to get a lisence to have a child... and if u break the rule n have a second one not only u get punished but everyone in the companies u n ur spouse work for gets penalised also... so there's peer pressure... n if u get caught u'll get black listed n it's not very likely u'll find another job... without $$ u can't raise any kid

but one child policy can b a big problem as the population age...

Well with the economic conditions it's common for people to run into financial difficulty, sometimes lead to suicide or murder. Then this would have a terrible impact on family with only one child wouldn't it?

Ps. these aren't facts, I'm assuming.

the person to blame for the one child policy is the government, he wanted a bigger army to have a stronger nation, but as we know, that didnt work. it is very harsh us, the chinese because we are not allowed to have more children. Lots of chinese people want a son so if it isnt, they might throw the daughter away, go somewhere else and have another kid

With population overgrow in China and the one child policy see to work

in some provice as result it bring many bear second birth women to near by

Hong Kong to give birth as long as some can pay $5000 Hong Kong

money. Many HK hospitals business flying because of this matter.

China enforcing one child policy is very drawback.

One child policy is good when the family is poor. But when a rich family is forced to have one child it ends being a disaster too. even if a rich family were to get more than one child with fines and taxes, it still sucks for the girls since the girls seem to be the child that no one wants. one child policy is good if you dont want your child and have an excuse to kill it.
