Since we get plenty of unknown files everyday, it's only safe if we scan it prior to opening it. However, one virus may slip thru your anti-virus system. So I have found 2 sites where you can scan the file for any viruses using not one, but multiples of anti-virus programs. http://virusscan.jotti.org/ This one scans fast and no need to wait in queue. http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html This one needs to wait before you can scan the file. It is slower but uses more anti-virus scanner. Oh yeah, dont take the scan results as granted. If it's a new virus then it won't show up in result. And sometimes there're false-positve too.
The online virus scanner uses more than just AVG. It uses like 10 together. Now, will you install 10 anti-virus programs on ur comp?
a good free one for virus/spyware is the online scan from trendmicro http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/e...ecall_free_scan.php?WT.cg_n=home_qa_housecall their spyware definition detected things that spybot and adaware did not catch
