Oricon has stamped the end of 2010 with the release of their yearly ranking for “Artist Total Sales“. The ranking is based on the gross total sales of CDs (both singles and albums), DVDs, and Blu-Ray Discs.

We’ve got the list of the ‘top 5′ artists with the highest record of sales down below!

    1. Arashi – ¥17.163 billion/¥17,163,000,000 (approximately $204,321,424)

    2. Tohoshinki - ¥9.431 billion/¥9,431,000,000 (approximately $112,273,808)

    3. AKB48 – ¥7.092 billion/¥7,092,000,000 (approximately $84,408,472)

    4. EXILE – ¥6.015 billion/¥6,015,000,000 (approximately $71,590,096)

    5. Ikimonogakari – ¥5.618 billion/¥5,618,000,000 (approximately $66,865,032)

※None of the artists above have sales for Blu-Ray Discs

Those numbers are astounding, but they definitely provide solid statistics of the artists’ popularity!

AKB has been rising like heat, i wont be surprised if they surpass Arashi in the future.

Wow, Tohoshinki still released stuff in 2010?
But anyways... this proves one important thing also.
Girls = stupid = waste tons of money on their male artists. Cause 90% of the bands on the list are male groups.
Thankfully I was one of those super idiotic fans. Though I have bought me a merchandise or two of my favorite group. That was a long time ago...

Peppermint: Let's just wait till/if they surpass Tohoshinki first before we make the Arashi assumption. Actually wait till they break 100 000 000. We'll have to wait till 2011 numbers. Cause if Morning Musume isn't even on the list, the likelihood of AK making more than Arashi is pretty slim. Female fans are waaay more willing to shell out the cash than men. obsessive fangirl > obsessive fanboy.

Congrats to Arashi though. Funny dudes.

Arashi 1st day sales surpasses weekly sales from any of the Johnny's group, like Arashi usually get 200-300k in first day, while KAT-TUN, NEWS, Hey! Say! Jump gets 150-200k in a week.

Also, Johnny-san stuffed Arashi with releases this year, like they had like, 5 or 6 singles this year & an album. You could preorder their CD in September/October when their CD in June/August didn't even release yet! Its crazy.

Its no wonder Arashi is first though.

^ Yeah, it's true. They're incredibly popular right now, with no signs of stopping.

Well Kat-tun, I'm not sure how great they'll be anymore since the departure of Jin. That's like Ryo or Yamapi leaving NEWS. It's pretty big.

Arashi really do appeal to a big audience. Their shows are funny, girls love their happy go go songs and each individual bring in their own fans from their personal projects. All of them are really good actors. (I'll throw Aiba a bone)

KAT-TUN got 230k on their last single, which was their first single after an official announcement of Jin leaving the group. So i guess, it somewhat affected them but i guess the fans that didn't buy only bought KAT-TUN stuff because of Jin, not cause of KAT-TUN as a group.

Arashi is amazing. Lets see what it's going to happen next year with them
