TVB rising star, Oscar Leung (梁烈唯), has recently opened up a dim sum restaurant with a friend on Hak Po Street, Mongkok. The 33-year-old actor expressed that opening up a restaurant business had always been a dream of his, and he hopes that he will be able to save enough money to expand his business even further, turning his restaurant into a “private kitchen” business. “I want to own a private kitchen in the future. I want to be able to cook my own dishes for a guest every night. I hope to have the chance to study at the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute in the future. I want to learn how to do the real thing!” Oscar is not inexperienced in the restaurant business. He previously worked as a waiter at his cousin’s Hong Kong-styled café house, and he has learned a lot from his experience there. “There are good and bad sides when a celebrity opens a new business,” said Oscar. “Yes, business will thrive, but if a celebrity gets negative press, it will also negatively affect the business. I will be extra careful in caring for this restaurant.” Oscar estimated that he has invested about $17 million HKD to the restaurant business. Based solely on their salaries they earn in the television industry, it is difficult to make ends meet for non-leading TVB actors . In recent years, many TVB artists saved money to invest on other business to increase their annual income. Jazz Lam (林子善) opened a frozen dessert and snacks shop in Wan Sha Street, Tai Hang, while Kitty Yuen (阮小儀) opened a noodles shop in Temple Street, Jordan. Matthew Ko (高鈞賢) opened a small, performing arts school for children, and Det Dik (狄易達) opened a dance studio, Step Stage, located in Laguna Verde Avenue, Hung Hom. Creds: Face Magazine
