Lol well, time for a minor rant My parents have recently become more technologically adept in the past 6 months or so, which is kind of to my detriment. First of all, I bought a Macbook fairly recently for school. I don't use it too much at home, but my dad is all over the thing as soon as i bring it back from the university. Using it to check mail and read the news and stuff, and then he tells me all about the news he read on the internet... which i already know about cuz thats basically all i do in class all day lol. I don't really mind this cuz I have my desktop to use when im at home. I also recently bought an Xbox 360, which was kind of for me and for my mom for occasional use to access my media center which has alot of shows and movies. I hooked this up downstairs and had to run through how to use it with her... basically drew a diagram of the controller and stuff and tried to explain why certain buttons did what they did. My mom is seriously old school in terms of technology, maybe its cuz she grew up on the outskirts of HK i dunno. But now that she has learned to use it she is using it constantly >_< i cant even get on there to play an occasional game. lol and now my dad has invaded my bedroom as well so he can camp out and watch bluray movies on my PS3. I've been pretty much shafted from all the stuff i bought lol. I'm not seriously miffed about it, but i do find the situation rather amusing. Anyone else ever encounter situations like this with their parents?
my mom recently started watching DVDs and she took my dvd player cus she says i don't use it but she still doesn't know how to use it and i just have to tell her which button to press and how many times to do what she wants it to do and she's always buying bootleg dvds and vcds so sometimes it doesn't work on my dvd player, she asks me like i'm an expert. and when i have no idea why it doesn't work and i get pissed off that she doesn't listen to me, she thinks i'm just saying it doesn't work cus i don't want to help her T.T
Since i learned my mum how to use a computer, she chat to her relatives, browse youtube(which then slows down the internet to the other computer),read the news everyday.I have another computer but then i have to share it with bro which is always using it when i need to use it...
i bought my dad a comp so then he can use it i have 2 xbox 360 now so it woudln't effect me and theres 2 tv's in the living room with all the media needs therefore my room is offlimits and plus... i don't communicated with parents much ........ i like my life more lol
luckily me n my brother have our own laptops so the desktop can be used by my parents.... i dont care if they fight over it as long as they dont use my laptop as for the rest, my mum took my tv n dvd player (which was a bday gift i got from my dad a few years ago) when i left to aussie for year n half but its ok, i hardly watch tv anyway
hmm i got my own pc, my bro has his laptop, my sis has her own pc, parents have a pc and laptop so no stepping on each others feet. as for gaming, parents have their own games consoles, we have our own consoles. only thing of mine that was 'taken' was my converter that lets you hook up PS pads to the pc cus my mom was playing with emulators.
my mum uses the pc a lot, so i went and bought computer parts and built a new PC, so we dont fight over it ~
omg the same thing is happening to be ~ since my parents have learned how to surf on the internet, watching movies on megavideo, using skype etc, they both constantly sit in front of the PC. Now we have PCs in every room and the worse thing is: when we have dinner together, my dad always turns on the HK Radio. i hate this !!! :(
That's really nice and loving of you. Seriously, I got my kids their own computers, and a cable connection on a separate modem, so that there would be no fighting for online time or complaints of lag (they're seriously into FPS's). I have my own connection which I use to surf, download movies and shows.
WTF .. ya'll are freaking loaded ... I am not big on electronics and my parents don't touch any of it. They're in the their late 70s already; not to mention, they don't live with me.
I prefer to keep my parents in the dark about stuff like this, just because I know once they know how to use it they'll use it all the time. However, I did teach them how to go on the internet for email and youtube etc.
i remember when i got a gameboy advanced when they first came out, brought it home and my mom reminded me it was mothers day and she wanted it so i gave her. she tried it again when i got my DS and i lol'd and said nope.
lol well.. if my folks need anything, they'll buy it for themselves. what goes in my room stays in my room
You are a "how soon" person. Good to know that ! Most kids will groan but you took it in good stride Good on you. As for me, I recently save enough money to buy a mega size TV... If I told my mum the price of it, she will freak. So I lied to say that I got it at a clearance sale for like 1/2 price. She is recovering from cataract, so I thought at least she doesn't have to strain her eyes to watch her movies. Hey do you all subscribe to "celestial" channel on cable where all the old Shaw brothers movies are shown ? I am sure the older folks will love it.
umm...my rents dunno how to use the technology...... i did teach my baba to go on the i-net which was pretty cool...i drew all these pictures showing him how to turn it on/off and it was okies....till we got a new comp and he didnt wana learn how to turn it on so he'd always ask us to turn it on for him...and then it got pretty annoying coz whenever i was online or doing homework he'd be breathing down my neck behind me asking me whut im doing dropping hints that he wants to go online...so i usually give in... but he only really goes on a few car websites like 'auto-trader' and mebe browse on ebay but thas mostly when we've loaded the web page up for him.... my mammi doesnt go online she says seeing all these things on the comp and stuff gives her a headache already....^^....she has a mobile and can txt on it.... and sometimes plays on the DS...
