So I figured out how to split it using disk manager.. but when I split into a new partition, there is extra unallocated space that I can't do anything with. And I need to figure out how to merge it back to new partition.
the way to merge is to delete the volume, when you delete the volume it will merge with whatever other deleted volume exists. if you just have one deleted volume then its on its own till it has another deleted volume to join with. you cant join it to a volume that is in use, thats how it has been for me anyway. If im wrong and someone can correct me then ill appreciate it cus it will save me some time in the future.
How big is this extra unallocated space? I noticed that my bootdrive takes about 100 mb. Maybe the program thinks its a boot drive or something?
I figured it out yesterday.. to make my life easier, I just backed up all my files first before messing with it. I had to Convert to GPT Disk which merged everything back into one and then I was able to split it back into two, were as before I had a 3rd partition unallocated that I couldn't do anything with. It's crazy though, something so simple.. yet I couldn't find it on the internet. Most of the answers I came across were use Partition Magic.. but I couldn't even run that on Win 7. But my next question how can I get my TV to recognize my drive lol. It's a 2.5TB which was why I figured partitioning it since it may not support that large capacity. Next thing I'll try is coverting it to FAT32 and see if that helps. How much speed will I be losing if I go from NTFS to FAT32?
Maybe I wasn't clear the first time. So my Hard Drive 2.5tb which is about 2.3tb is in actuality. I figured I'd split about 400gb of it into partition. But what I ended up getting where 2 unallocated around 200gb each. And the 2nd unallocated space did not allow me to create a volume for it or anything, the first 200gb I was able to no problem.
Depending on your TV, FAT32 is the default for most flash drive which TVs can read. In terms of speed, it can depend on the USB Hard Drive in general, you can test it, but it shouldn't be a huge difference.
alright forget it.. I couldn't use the fat32 software to convert it. So I tried to use xFat instead see if that helps.. still can't be recognized. So I think I'm just going to return the drive. But I'm not sure if I should get a 1TB or 2TB as I'm not sure whats the max the TV will support...
I would assume so, unless they upgrade the support to 3tb. but that's not as common right now right? so no support for it.. no idea.. what brand would you guys say is better? WD or Seagate?
