After over ten years of playing supporting roles in action films, martial arts actor Philip Ng (伍允龍) finally made it big in this year’s hit television series A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>, his TVB drama debut. His portrayal as “Kitty”, or Lung Shing-fu, in the martial arts drama is popularly received, shooting Philip to overnight fame. Philip, who recently turned 39, just returned from a promotional tour for his upcoming movie Birth of the Dragon, directed by George Nolfi. Philip, who portrays Bruce Lee (李小龍) in the biographical film, attended the film’s world premiere in Toronto earlier this month, which coincided with his birthday. While close friends such as Andy On (安志杰) were around the area to celebrate his birthday, Philip’s rumored girlfriend, A Fist Within Four Walls costar Moon Lau (劉佩玥), was not. Moon is currently shooting the TVB supernatural comedy The Demon-Conquering Taxi <降魔的>, costarring Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Mandy Wong (黃智雯). In a long-distance interview with Hong Kong reporters, Philip, who was in Chicago at the time, shared that he had been busy promoting his new film. Having to portray Bruce Lee, Philip admitted that he was under great stress, but felt relieved and thankful after seeing the audiences giving it a favorable review after watching the film at the premiere. Asking why his rumored girlfriend Moon wasn’t in Chicago to celebrate his 39th birthday, Philip said, “Thank you everyone for being so devoted to Kitty and Audrey’s relationship. That’s telling us that our portrayals and the drama itself were very successful. However, we are truly only friends. When we were promoting the drama a while back, we got very engaged in our roles and presented ourselves like a couple. I am very happy and satisfied with this kind of relationship we have.
