What is the outcome of the investigation into the Police performance in the handling of the negotiation of freedom for the hostages?
The last I heard, one of the investigating heads stated that there is a very good possibility that some of the hostages were mistakenly shot and killed by Metro Manila Police as they stormed the bus. That has got to be the icing on a very stale cake. The incident was already a tragedy; but this latest revelation is sure to turn up the heat. Personally, I don't find the individual line officers at fault at all. Their poor training and preparedness was a symptom of endemic and long standing lack of leadership and institutional foresight. IMHO, the first person who should be held criminally accountable is the commander on the scene, followed by the commander in charge of overall training.
