so i was down at reno... and playing some hold'em i pretty much had bad luck the whole trip... i had lots of crappy hands that weren't even playable so i just kept folding while blinds got me. i also played a tournament and lost... due to no hands! my best hand was probably 99 and i went all in with that one... and lost to AJ. anyway, the whole trip sucked... but the worst hand of the trip was this... i had 78 hearts, flop was 396 hearts. so i had a straight flush draw and i flopped the flush. they bet, i raised. the next card was a 9. my friend bet, i raised, he re-raised... and i knew he had a 9, probably a full house or something so i just called to see the last card, hoping it was a 5 or 10 of hearts to give me a straight flush. it was a J of hearts. *sigh*... he bet, i folded, he flipped over 4- 9s... good hand. now, at the casino there's something called bad beat that means if 4 of a kind or bigger gets beat, then there's a jackpot for the table. in this case it was around $34,500. most would go to the 2 players involved in the hand, me and my friend. it would probably be around $13-14000 each to me and him and the table would split the rest, about 1000 each. it was so close... it bugged me for the rest of the trip. and i continued having bad luck as well... ended up losing like $200+ but that doesn't bug me nearly as much as almost winning $13000. bla bla bla... yea most of u are probably not old enough to gamble!! by the way i got carded like 8 times there.
u gota trust ur instincts....i woulda bet if i had the flush..cause chances of him getting a full house is not as high as him getting a triple.....it just depends how well u play the game really..if u can bluff rite and bet the rite amounts..u can win
I personally don't go to casinos to gamble but I like to go watch friends or other people gamble. After a friend of mine lost $35,000 cnd once, it seemed pretty clear that my choice is right.
What do you mean he has to trust his instincts? He did, he folded instead of calling on the river (which was the right move). He never got his straight flush, he only had a flush, and he would have lost that hand if he continued betting and just lost more money. As for bluffing, then they still wouldn't get the $30000 pot, goal is to beat the 4 of a kind, not cause someone with a 4 of a kind to fold. If his buddy folded, then he would have just bluffed and won the current pot, not the bad beat pot. Poker is part skill, and part luck of the draw. With enough skill, you can minimize your losses, but you still need that luck of the draw to really pull out ahead.
i forgot i posted this... haha. i use to play poker pretty often, but then i stopped and i just recently played. i know i'm lackin the skills i use to have because i use to win often. it's either that or i just had a bad day, not hitting any hands/flops and that happens.
well u cant blame anyone for not having the straight flush i mean its not all that possible in getting its quite hard to get you know
yea i'm not blaming anyone, i'm just upset that i didn't get it. i know it's not that it's rare to get, that's why they have the jackpot for it. it's just a coincidence that it happened to be between my friend and i at a full table and i need either one of two cards to get it. which made it really close. it is just bother me that i was so close to winning something.
awwww... lady lucky wasnt on ur side tonight .. tooo bad forget poker!... do the asian thing !! MJ!! u can win bigger !
Play poker on Facebook instead...lol. That's what I do anyway. I don't play real money only because alot of times I either get really bad pocket cards or I get good pocket cards but the river screws me over instead. *sigh*. Poker doesn't like me.

No offense or anything, but by the way you're explaining poker it seems that you're too concerned with yourself. To be successful you need to change your style of play based on the table. Also, knowing how to play doesn't mean you'll win, bad luck for you i guess.
It's just bad luck... no offense taken, I'm not saying I'm a really good poker player but I'm a decent casual poker player and I know how to play. I know who I can bluff and who I can not (which is most of them since they're loose players) Against those types of players I need to play good hands which I wasn't getting any and 99% of the hands I folded would not have won after the flop came out anyway. Also I'm not upset about losing $200, it happens and I know I can win it back next time. I'm just upset that the cards were teasing me off the badbeat jackpot. Overall I made a few K over the past 2 years, but I don't play often. My friend on the other hand plays all the time and he's really good. At times he can make a few K a week. He spends his winnings like he's a millionaire and that makes me jealous! -.- He has no money since he doesn't know how to save though.
