Not sure if this is the right place for this but...

As some of you may know, I've been contemplating the idea of building a computer case from scratch. After a bit of planning and designing, I'm finally starting.

    Concept:
Project Kon Box will be a cube shaped (see what I did there?) computer case built with an aluminum frame and acrylic panels. The reasoning behind this to have a case that's easy to access. The acrylic panels will sit on top of the aluminum frame and can be easily removed to access components.

    Materials:
    1" x 49" 1/20" Thick Angled Aluminum
    3/16" Rivets
    More to come later

    Tools:
    Rivet Gun
    Hacksaw
    Clamps
    Combination Square

    Absolutely.

The purpose of this thread is to log my progress and mishaps. Hopefully, I don't screw up too much. Hahaha.

On a side note: I need to get my Dremel back from my friend.

Did a lot of cutting. Lol.

    Day 2: More cutting.

Have a day off work today and I wanted to get the final cuts done but didn't have my Dremel. So I decided to improvise and make myself a guide out of the scrap pieces of aluminum from the previous work day.

    The guide:

    anyway...
cant wait to see the finished product.
how's the cooling going to be?
I assume the 3 holes on the front and back are for fans...
tunnel air flow? or some liquid cooling?

    Haha good eye!

I'm planning on running a liquid cooling setup in this. The 3 holes will be for the radiator. Depending on how the build goes, the 3 holes might be exchanged with a large rectangle for the radiator.

Day 2 [Part 2]: Drilling and riveting part 1

Wanted to get a bit more work done so I went out and got some riveting done. Worked on the vertical pieces of the frame and riveted on the back plate that the top and bottom of the frame will attach to.

Day 3: Mini update (detail work)

So I notice that being a cheap ass has caused me a bit of grief (see pic). Since I got my Dremel back, I spent some time today fixing it. Don't mind the scuffs, they'll be polished out once I'm done. ;)

    No bueno: :(

    Safety first:
Wanna guess how many times I burned myself?

    Dremel and bits:

    Day 4: Frame assembly

Finally got all the holes drilled and all the privets punched in. Frame is done for now. Next step is to order the acrylic panels.

  14. kontra, how do you account for electromagnetic, radiation shielding, and anti-static protection?

i'm probably not gonna do it, because i'll have to line my case with such shielding (too much work)

this is one project i'll probably not gonna get pressured on, now that i think about those lol

    good luck have fun though

Indeed. Slow and steady but it's getting there. Lol.
    Thanks!

    Day 5: More measuring.

Motherboard tray. Too short. No bueno.

Solution: Take it apart and make my own.

    Rivets to be removed
