Im thinking to get a ps3 soon so im wondering if i should get a ps3 or ps3 slim.. there's one shop i know of that has the old one left.
from users experiences which one should i get?
i know the slim is small and bigger hdd. but that doesn't worry me.. i like the shiny look and i can easily change the hdd anyway.

i read the slim is faster and is more efficient.. but has anyone really experienced any major overheating problems or speed problems worth pointing out?

the fat one is 80gb and $400, where the 120gb slim is 500 but usually comes with a game or 2 and maybe an accessories pack.

    Suggestions?

    thanks

The slim really isn't that much faster than the fat. However, it does run cooler.

There were a few fat PS3's that had a problem with heat. It would get hot and the solder would heat up and the components would come loose. The newer slim doesn't seem to have this issue.

and the ps3 slim is smaller and is the better one to get considering the prices are about the same.

definitely go with a brand new ps3 slim, its design is more efficient and produces less heat. These HD consoles are known to produce a lot of heat, and having a slim will definitely help. My old phat ps3 constantly pumps out hot air, with the bottom face of the ps3 getting pretty warm after playing just an hour.

hmm that's interesting.. because i heard the slim has only one fan whereas the fat has 2 and a bigger heatsink so it disperses the heat more?
i just asked a friend with a slim before and he said the discs come out of the slim really hot as well .

slims chip size is smaller therefore using less electricity and producing less heat, the buttons are less flashy on slim as theyre buttons, on the fat its touch sensitive, also less usb slots.

some people also say theres a wierd sound when ejecting in the slim (normal) which they dont hear from the fat version

slim isnt that fast, sometimes the fat loads faster depending on whats being loaded, theres comparision videos online.

as for the issues with the fat ps3 heat/YLOD it really only appeared on the first gen PS3 ones with BC so its coming from long term use, slim came out less than a year ago well never know in a couple years if itll have YLOD too.

i personally prefer the look of the slim more, but if you like the piano black then get the fat, just know that it attracts a lot of dust ><"

i am unsure if this occur to all batches of fat PS3, but my friend that own a PS3 have encountered the YLOD(overheat), and had to pay for the repair because the warranty is over...
since the 80GB version doesnt have PS2 backward compatibility as well, i would say the only its major advantage compare to the slim would be able to install linux OS on it, however, if you are not a linux user or dont plan to do that at all, then i would say PS3 slim is a better option..
as others mentioned, it runs cooler, and so far there are no overheating cases being found on the slim, and as the name could tell, it is also slimmer, which saves more space..

  12. aesthetically, the fat ps3 looks more like something that was worth the money you spent on it for, while the slims doesn't quite have the same appeal ;)

lol.... i hope that makes sense.... but if you don't mind at all, go with the slim, it's newer, lighter, and runs cooler..... ill stick with my fat PS3 until it croaks

I kind of miss my PS3 Fat. Not that there's anything wrong with the slim. There was something about the big, bulky PS3. It had character. The slim feels cold and soulless.

  16. id go with the fat just cuz it looks sturdier and the curves on it look sexier

Don't fat version get more problems then slim? i had the fat version when it was released in UK but never have any problem with it. Sold to save up for LE FF13 slim, *sigh* already been 3 month since i sold it and wishing i can play (Still saving up since LE £400+ Tax fee)

  18. yeah.. well mine was Fat n White! they don't make those anymore.. =(. Plus I liked the gloss on it..

I think they might come out with white slims pretty soon!?!? they're releasing the white controllers next month or so. There was talk about getting white one outta japan way back when..
