India has a long standing and well deserved reputation as being the Rape Capital of the World. Even as other nations have more in terms of victim numbers, the general perception is that India has a huge underbelly of non reporting that is obscures a huge number of crimes against women. Despite last year's harsh new laws passed after public outcry over a horrific case of gang rape, India remains a Good Ole Boys Club that not only continues in failing to protect women but thereafter the crime is usually given a quick and shoddy review. A court recently rejected a police conclusion of suicide in another notorious case where two teen girls were found hanged from a mango tree last year. The police claim that the two lower caste girls hanged themselves over the shame that one of them had over her relationship with a boy; the other girl supposedly facilitated their relationship. However, the girls parents rejected this finding and instead sought assistance from the courts. Time will tell if the truth is ever known. But one word of advice to women who plan on traveling to India; don't. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-34664596
