According to P2P blog, the German music rights holder GEMA has won its court case against the massive file hoster Rapidshare.com. In a press release, GEMA announced that the Dusseldorf district court had ruled that Rapidshare will for now on have to block access to any works in the GEMA repertoire. In its defense, Rapidshare was saying that "only its users can be held responsible for copyright violations." The court apparently disagreed and said that the site was used mainly for illegal activities and that the company generates "substantial" monthly revenue from those illegal activities. The ruling could have implications for the future of the site on the whole. GEMA's press release read, "The ruling forces Rapidshare to 'take measures that might have the risk of making Rapidshare's service substantially less attractive or even close it down completely.'" That statement means that potentially GEMA can get the entire site shut down if access isn't blocked to GEMA's copy written material. In the past year GEMA has won two injunctions against the file hoster but never an actual court case. Rapidshare.com is based in Switzerland but Rapidshare.de was originally founded in Germany.
Not much of a loss to be honest. There are a lot of new file hosting sites out there that are in many ways superior to RS. Anyways, only premium users really used it and some hate their service. Honestly, they have a 2gb daily limit for premium account holders...
HarHar, im a RS premium user and we have 25gigs a day not 2 lol have to hide account details in case 'HeAvEnzgmaIl' scams it for his 'thank me' scamz -shock
anything to back that up??... the direct downloads i have interest in are all on rapidshare so until that changes im stuck with RS, tbh im very happy with it as a premium user and i find it to be much more forgiving with cheap non premium users .
Agreed. My bad, I haven't really kept up to date with RS's policies due to the fact that its quite rubbish. From RS themselves. Any unused amount from the 5 gb daily limit rollover to the next day. So, I'm going to assume you haven't downloaded much from RS recently. EDIT: Also, rapidlibrary has a search engine for as well MU so I don't really see how you can't find the same stuff on RS that is also on MU.
^ as an expierienced direct dloader i must say, MU is best for anime, rappidshare is best for movies, soaps etc which is all im interested in. a lot of shows are not on MU plus nowadays you can stream anime in high quality so i hardly need to dload anime anymore so MU is no use for me, i dont dload every day though which is why i have 25gigs .
Meh, I prefer bittorrent for the most part. But seriously, for anyone who downloads a lot of stuff on a daily basis, rapidshare is not the way to go with 5gb a day.
i used to use bitcommet which made torrents a pain because it would slow my net down to a crawl, looking back i see that it hogged my upload no matter what i did, i use utorrent now and have no problems. if your a crazy dloader then 5Gigs a day wont do, no idea why a person would be dloading over 5 gigs a day but i know it happens.
I'm waiting for Kim Jong Il to host a file sharing service and tell the MPAA RIAA lawyers, "I have nukes now, so fuck off." LOL... Free downloads forever. Seriously, if North Korea offerred a free unlimited download service for all the movies or songs you want say, for a nominal fee of like 20 bucks a month, would people here sign up?
do u guys actually input 20 files to get a movie? i hate it with a passion vs megaupload 1 file downloads
Are you thinking about starting an illegal operation if there is enough interest? -pirate U gota be clueless if you dload manually nowadays, i use 'FlashGot' combined with 'Orbit', you highlight the many links and click the 'get' button and they all get sent to Orbit for the download, simple as that. I do remember dloading with MU and file stopped half way through cus i reached my 'leechers' quota, was a sad day. im more comfortable doing smaller files when im not paying. 'Others' have not been around as long as RS so they put more effort into throwing cookies at cheapos looking for freebies, over time when their [paying] user base increases they will cut back.
u can find anything on MU that is on RS. It may take a little more effort depending on how you search, but there are links for everything.
