Three people have been accused of letting rats bite off a six-week-old girl's toes at their mobile home in the US. Pike County prosecutor Rob Junk said the baby's toes on one foot had been gnawed away.Sheriff's deputies went to the home in Ohio on Sunday after receiving an anonymous tip.The baby is recovering from her ordeal at a hospital in Columbus.A married couple and the 18-year-old boyfriend of the baby's mother have been charged with endangering a child.They were in court for an initial hearing on Tuesday and are being detained pending a hearing in two weeks. The prosecutor said all the suspects lived in the mobile home, near Piketon, a village noted for its old uranium-enrichment plant.Mr Junk said the baby's mother is a juvenile - he would not identify her or say if she will be charged
I heard stories about rats biting on little kids, it's just scary to see something like that. But should these 3 people be charged? I don't think they would let it happen if they saw what was happening. "Piketon, a village noted for its old uranium-enrichment plant" Rat's might be bigger there.
I agree; the tone of the article makes it sound distinctly like the adults involved "allowed" it to happen, or took no action when they saw it was happening. That is, they were "...letting rats bite off a six-week-old girl's toes..." There's probably more to this story, least of which is likely poverty. You have multiple people living in a trailer, with one that is an underaged parent herself; that bespeaks volumes of the milieu. This probably has more to do with destitution, educational lack, and poor attention rather than actual intent. Obviously, they did take the child for medical treatment when they discovered the event. As for radiation induced size increases; your fantasy is as good as any, but I'm sure there's a Food of the Gods story in there somewhere.
Sad and scary .. I know rats bite but attacked a baby .. that's a first for me. I agree with the comment above .. not sure it's worth the charge. Two weeks ago, I read a story where a father slapped his kid and a bystander immediately called the police to arrest the father and jailed him for weeks before things were resolved.
