On the road of music From acting in cameos to “A step into the past”, Lam Fung is gradually revealed to be an actor and a singer. A successful artiste will naturally need to try different things. Last year his debut album “Love to search for you in memories” was very popular. A year later he released another album which has a greater variety, being busy filming series has not compromised its quality. Fung is quietly working hard to do everything, all for gaining acceptance, in acting and in singing. A variety of styles Continuing on from the last album’s love song elements, this time other music styles had been added, giving a greater variety of music, and new experiences in performing. “This time there will be different ways of performing, I discovered that I have a few different voices, actually I can sing like this. Additionally there are other new attempts, for example the first time singing a duet with Vincy Chan. Plus there are more fast tempo songs. In the past I thought it’s difficult to sing R & B in Cantonese, this time there is a little bit of R&B + Pop style, and it turned out pretty good. Also, this time I’ll sing a Mandarin song, it is my first time. In the future there’ll be more added, but at the moment Cantonese songs are the main priority.” This album was on hold for several months, recording did not begin until “Moonlight Resonance” finished filming. Rest is a luxury for Fung, but during filming, he did not forget to participate in picking songs. “Actually the record company will send demo songs to me every time. Because their preference of songs is not enough. If I don’t think it’s suitable, then I won’t be comfortable when singing it. But I am willing to try new things.” Sleep is number one Fung admits his favourite place is his home, but it’s also the place where he spends the least time. “Home is the place you own, I will tidy my room if I have time. I can tidy my room for two days, but of course not continuously. Even if I wanted to I can’t change the house’s design. But for my room, I think the most important is the bed. Because it’s used for resting it needs to be big and comfortable. My bed takes up 1/3 of my room.” Even though the whole home’s design was decided by his mum, when Fung is working overseas he will look out for decorations. “When I’m overseas I actually don’t buy souvenirs, I will look out for decorations, and then imagine how it will look like if I put it in my home. But in the end I bought a whole pile of useless things.” Long vacation There are always conflicts in the desired lifestyle. Fung doesn’t want too much routine, but it is essential. In this industry during busy times you can be very busy, seeing new things, want to learn a lot but don’t have enough time. If it’s possible and there is a chance, Fung wants to go backpacking. “Previously there were a few days of holidays I had wanted for so long, I used them to go backpacking in Tibet, living in the local’s home. (Didn’t you feel tiring?) Tiring? It’s not like I’m using my physical powers to work. I’ve worked under 40 degree heat while wearing ancient costumes with a hair piece. When the only way to cover the sun is to use a black umbrella, and then have to wait to do the actions and learn lines, that was when I was too tired to even have a bad temper.” Future goals Fung thinks filming series and singing are both difficult in their own ways. Filming takes a long time, and need to co-ordinate with different departments, but you can NG. But when singing live you cannot make mistakes, so there are greater pressures. It’s rare to see TVB and the recording company co-ordinating well with each other, so Fung can develop freely. He has always taken his chances and has clear goals for the future. “For singing, I hope later on I will have dance songs. For acting, everyone wants to win awards because this is evidence of a person’s hard work. Plus it is a memorable item. But I hope I will only win after everyone accepts me. If I win but is not accepted by the majority, then definitely don’t give it to me.” Scans by: Sharon @ RaymondForst.com Credits: Kat @ RaymondLam.org
