Milestones in a Journey, Fung Will Not Rest in Complacency, Strive to do His Best Rather Than Setting Goals

(it means Fung journey in the entertainment circle is smooth but he will not be contented, he will not set goals, but just concentrate on doing what he’s doing now and doing it best!!!)
Lam Fung entered the entertainment circle with a learning attitude. During that time, he collaborated closely with Gallen Lo, Louis Koo and others and it is possibly by this virtue that people do not perceive Lam Fung as young and this is all but a wrong perception. Lam Fung has just turned 29 on the 8th. For the past ten years, Lam Fung has been diligently and consistently working on finding a breakthrough in his acting career, believe that the audience have taken notice that Lam Fung’s acting skill improved quite substantially and there is also evidently an optimistic development in his music career. Lam Fung is not only popular in Hong Kong but his popularity is also evident in Mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia and other parts of the world. Apart from that, Lam Fung’s appearance has won the hearts of many women and Lam Fung is unquestionably their prince charming.

(Interview conducted by : Shu Fang)

Reporter: With a twinkle of an eye, you have been in the entertainment circle for 10 years, what do you think of your achievements in the past 10 years? Have you set a 10-year goal for yourself?

Fung: Time passes by very swiftly. I entered the entertainment circle with a learning attitude, I feel that the ten years was just the beginning as there is still a great deal of things for me to learn and there are certainly rooms for improvement. There are various areas that I wish that I could venture into and have my hands on it as well. I will not set a fixed goal or plans as things are changing everyday and all I could do is to carry out all my current work and complete them efficiently and that should be sufficent.

Reporter: Do you think that your career path has been a smooth one?

Fung: Not really so. Actually, I was only given leading roles on my 2nd year in TVB, but I must admit that I have been very fortunate and have been given many good roles to play and I am indebted to many seniors who took very good care of me at that time when I was a newbie. They taught me a great deal of things and honestly speaking, I have gained more than I have expected for the past 10 years. I am very happy with my current accomplishments but I will not rest in contentment.

Reporter: You became a singer last year, your album sales were so good that it reached Golden Disc Record when your album was first released and owing to such good results that you have achieved, it was definitely a confidence booster to you personally as you were still a newbie in the music circle at that time. You released a 2nd album this year and the album sales was even better.

Fung: Frankly speaking, I am indeed very happy. I love singing, probably it has to do with the music lessons that I had taken when I was in primary school. Actually, I have always wanted to be a singer when I first entered the entertainment circle. I really want to thank the audience for their praises and encouragement as I was worried that the audience might think that I was just doing it for the sake of fun but I was not. I was serious about my singing career. Probably, my record company and fans knew that I was not having that kind of an attitude, hence, I was fortunate to be given an opportunity to release my 2nd album.

Reporter: Is it because you were successful and have laid down an open platform for TVB that which made them think that actors/actresses can also succeed in the music industry, hence they are continually signing up TVB artistes with other music companies, whom amongst others include Linda Chung, Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong.

Fung: Ha Ha! We can’t say that for sure, I believe this has nothing to do with it. In fact, I had to wait for the company’s (TVB) arrangement. However, it is undeniably that actors/actresses who sing theme songs for drama series does help a lot.

Reporter: There are many TVB artistes who became singers and within a short time they conduct their very own musical concert, for instance, Wong Cho Lam who has recently made a special musical film for himself. When do you intend to conduct one?

Fung: I have been asked the same question by fans and friends, but I feel that I should not rush into it as I believe that if I want to conduct a musical concert, I hope to have enough songs that I could sing for my fans. In fact, my company has a plan for this for me too.

Reporter: You have lost the TV King this year, were you disappointed at that time?

Fung: I was not disappointed or felt upset about it, instead, my friendss’ response were more overwhelming but I do understand that it is out of love and care that they had reacted that way. I feel that it is better that I did not win the award as what matters most is that the results were acceptable by the general public. Morever, I have been nominated for many years, just that this year, my chances were slightly higher than the previous years. I believe I will win the award one day. In fact, what I want and hope most for now is that I will be able to play different roles and characters.

Reporter: You have acted in many drama series, do you have a role / character that you particularly like?

Fung: Yes indeed there are several roles / characters that I like, for instance my first drama series (A Step Into The Past) playing the role as King Chun (Chun Chi Huang). I was recognised in Mainland China all because of “A Step Into the Past” Le Femme Desperado’s Siu Chai’s my first breakthrough role. That year I remember receiving many positive response from the general audience as well and of course my recent role as Goon Ga Jai in Moonlight Resonance.

Reporter: Your development in TV and Music is on the rise, do you have intention to venture into filming movies?

Fung: Yes, I surely wish to film movies. In fact, I have been invited to film movies all these years, but it’s probably due to the imperfect timing, hence, I have not had the opportunity as yet. I really hope that I am able to venture into different areas.

    Reporter’s Remarks:
I have seen the growth of Lam Fung. He has changed a lot except for one thing, that is his sincerity towards people. I have known him for many years now, even though he is now very popular, he is still as warm and and as friendly as before. It is usually rather difficult to strike a balance in the entertainment circle especially for artistes who are popular can be very arrogant and deliberately drawing a distance from their friends.

Lam Fung is not and he is still a big kid himself. He is more chatty (talkative) now as he used to be very quiet and will only answer to the questions raised, at that time he was rather boring perhaps he was protective of himself. But throughout the years, Lam Fung has changed and he is more chatty now. I hope that as he gets more popular, he will maintain his friendliness and warmth towards people.
