A 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa sold for €9.02 million ($12.17 million), setting a new world record for the most expensive motor car to be sold at the Ferrari Leggenda e Passione annual one-day auction, at Pista di Fiorano in Maranello, Italy The price eclipses last year record-a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spider by €1.98 million ($2.67 million). A mere 22 examples of the 250 TR saw production between 1957 and 1958. Today, the cars carry eminence as one of the finest racing cars of the period and some of the more desirable collector Ferraris in existence. The record-setting 250, chassis number 0714/TR, was the second customer car to come off the assembly line and later became the most campaigned of its ilk. The chassis began its racing career with a fourth-place finish at the 1000 km Buenos Aires in 1958. It would later compete in Grand Prix of Cuba and Portugal to varying success and race through North America, culminating in June 1963 at the Elkhart Lake 500. The Leggenda e Passione, held by RM Auctions in association with Sotheby's, also saw a 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 (one of three ever made), a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT (SWB) Berlinetta Speciale Bertone and a 2008 Maserati MC 12 Corsa, showing only delivery mileage.
