Well 1st get the hdd in question and plug it into a system with a OS already loaded (i will use XP as my example) as a slave drive. Then boot up the system.

Right click my computer and click manage
    Find and click Disk Management
Find the drive you want to reformat and right click it
Click Format (the default should be NTFS) click OK (dont choose quick format)
And it should be reformatted as just a slave data drive

I think thats all there is, if not Im sure someone will say :)

if u already have another hdd plugged into ur system...the hd that ur attaching to be formatted, make sure it is set to slave or cable select via the jumper setting...or else ur pc will try to boot from that second drive.
