RMVB - DVD I do not know why on earth would ppl use RMVB/RM =.= Makes no sense if the size will be 100% same as if u put it in avi/mkv/xvid Oh wells if thats how u guys like ur files to be, i'll give u my method of turning back to avi - mpeg -VOB[DVD format] Use programs : EO video <----- cause u can batch, do more then the other's can TMPGenc mpeg <-----cause I like to use it, its for advance users but has an easy to use wizzard TMPGenc DVD author <-----put ur pictures back grounds MAKES GOOD LOOKING DVD!! Locate the file, drag to the right hand side, then click on converter in the bottom left 2. select the profiles & out put 3. Go to converter and click start! TMPG---SUBTITLES/MPEG 2: Start TMPGEnc and close the Wizard. First change the Directshow priority in TMPGEnc (the Directshow reader reads the subtitles the same way as Media Player). 1. Select Option->Enviromentel Settings 2. Select VFAPI Plugin 3. Right click on the Directshow Multimedia File Reader and select Higher Priority, repeat it until it is on the top of the list. Open the video with wizard or manual. The subtitles should now appear. Use File->Preview in TMPGEnc to check that you can see the subtitles before encoding. Follow by converting it to mpeg: Continue with the steps with the wizard in the TMPG. Set the screen resolution- PAL/NTSC = PAL 640/480 default = NTSC 720/540 if the screen is a bit smaller reduce the height of the image [DO NOT CHANGE THE WIDTH!] u may also stick with "keep aspect ratio" to get the best looks or add ur own! Click on Other settings: click on GOP structure- click off detect screen change Do not touch anything else! apart from VIDEO TAB how big the bit rate u set is how big the file may be, the more the better the quality of it. 4000 is the default dvd quality. MPEG2-DVD/VOB structure Creating the DVD format - OPEN up Dvd Author 1.CLick on "Start a new project" (You can select pal/ntsc at this moment) 2. Adding the tracks: You may add more tracks {specials/photo shows} 3.Click on MENU TAB ON TOP 4. Follow and customize your dvd looks. 5. Simulation - to see what your dvd looks like. 6. When Done - Follow by OUTPUT Make image onto HD. Then Burn on DVD OPTIONAL: 7. Fiddle around with the program. U can make audio back ground, video back ground, fade and pop up pictures/clips.! The title is a little misleading and there are advantages to using rmvbs like they provide excellent quality video at lower bitrates leading to much smaller filesizes. I don't burn DVDs to watch but I burn them to store data and prefer be able to store more on each DVD. Either way, good job spending time to write a tutorial.
RMVB is a good format. It saves space but has next to no quality loss, if done with the right programs and properly. I prefer Avi but it takes longer.
Well its pretty much better way to store and re-watch the file that u dled on ur own tv. Its a pain to just watch it on computer format, while i even have a dvd player that plays mepg files and avi. Much better to enjoy on a bigger screen without having the need to plug ur computer on ur tv. ^^ *i'm not promoting pirated/stealing movies .... only personal enjoyments(buy original- IF its worth it) -innocent2 TQ
most of the .rmvb files i watched have poor quality. i definitely prefer .avi! plus i hate using real media player to watch movies!
you don't have to use real media player. use real alternative and media player classic. just download the k-lite mega codec pack (free and no spyware or adware)
not really: rmvb will still have time split of up to 0.1 seconds split and u can't even make menus or add subs that way <---- might be wrong on that!
Actualy the reason y it looks good, is cause your TV is (1024-768) normaly which is 4-3. And TV these days has sharpe pixel fixed rates to stand CBR and VBR. Majority of RMVB is done in 320-240 size. Meaning if u watch it on ur computer, depeneding what screen resolution size u set on, will result the bigger it is the more pixels u c it as. Look at the example i set in at top 720-540, u'll c a big difference. >.<
I used to use total video convertor becasue it can let me make a list of files to convert, liek i can choose alll 20 episodes of a series and then hit the convert button. then it will be all done over night. bu now Win AVi will do all that plus a bit faster too. u can also use nero to make dvds. it so easy becasue it lets u creat the background form an type of immage, buttons on the scree, chapters, and differnt type of menu, such as title menu, Chapter menu, and extra menu. it also lets u add in a into video and music can be play in the background of ur menus. u can also animate ur buttons and write things on ur menu. I really would recommend this. its NERo Vission.
I have tried Nero Vision. It pretty good as simple wise cause it won't let u add sound effects and background music/background videos: but its simple and don't need any technical side on. For WinAvi its yet another simple program to use without technical sides to it. But what ever u feel comftable with. My guide is for advance settings to improve verdio and audio performance. Get the most out of converting.
Its not just the menu. You can add subtitles, change audio. You can also change the clip to a wide screen view and make the resolution/graphics better.
RMVb files does lose a bit of quality on transcoding but the main thin is that is is still very good and the file size can be half that of a AVI file
The encoding from the raw(hdtv/dvd/vcd) will incorporate good quality. ITs just the fact when u re-encode u lose the option of exposing more of the pixels through the re-encoding process. I'm not saying its a must do, or even if its worth ur time to do it, just that i'm giving ppl an option to get the full quality from the original. Fine example the audio will be stereo, and we can make it to AC3 which is Dolby Digital, or even adding credits or photos in.

actually some of the RMVB's are in bad quality since they came from the TV themselves anyway. From my knowledge, the default formats for transferring are AVI and MPEG. So you should haVe to convert to those first, and then convert to RMVB. It then gets uploaded to us. Then we have to convert it again to get it back onto the TV. So there's definitly loss of quality there.
