In the past year Ron Ng hasn’t lost any connections, in 2006 he said he was pretty unlucky, last year there was a good turn and this year he was able to film two Mainland series earning him a lot of cash making him feel more relaxed than before. Saying that Ron has no spirit, he said this year not many of his series aired and next year he is sure he’ll do better. The opportunity is given to those who are prepared and the awaken Ron Ng is read to re-enter the spotlight. After entering the industry Ron had many rumours, and pretty much all of them came from filming including those with Ella Koon, Charmaine Sheh, Toby Leung and Elanne Kong. Every time you read the gossip magazines there is always something to do with Ron in a negative way making people very curious. Is Ron’s relationship with the reporters that negative? In Ron’s eyes this is only a minor problem as it won’t be hard for him to overcome saying “I have a connection with the audience and also the reporters”. “I don’t treat reporters differently, the main problem is when those readers read these gossip magazines and look at me from a different perspective. I haven’t actually done anything to them, actually a lot of those reporters are my good friends, its just that nobody talks about it and doesn’t let everyone see it either. I have been filming everyday and there have been reporters there, we talk and laugh and even eat together. This news is only a small part of the whole magazine and not all magazines write about me. You have to understand that those magazine reporters won’t compliment you by saying you look pretty or handsome and they won’t say you act well. They might say next year you will win the Best Actor and become TV King. You don’t have to see this from my perspective; you have to see what those magazines think and how they write their articles. You have to read those things” Fans say his acting has improved Fans who leave messages online say Ron has improved in his acting. But they feel that TVB hasn’t given him many opportunities, especially this year they didn’t see a few series with him in it while other siu sings have had many more. When Ron heard this he defended TVB saying “I have been filming two mainland series which has only left me 2 months this year so I’ve had to immediately film series so that they can air towards the end of the year or next year so my popularity may rise next year”. As an undercover cop in E.U (Academy 3) Ron said that having a sequel must have the likes of Kathy Chow and Michael Miu. From The Academy, On the first Beat to E.U (Academy 3) these series are a “must” continue. The story in each series has changed, each one is different. In the first one it was about us learning to become a cop, in the second it was about being a new “cop” and in the third it is about a police becoming an undercover cop. The audience might think that these three series is linked but in fact all of them are different. In 2005 Ron released his song Don’t blame her and even signed with a record company EP. He has temporarily put his singing career aside and has been focusing on filming his newest series Wives and Concubines. “If I released an album now I couldn’t go up on stage and let everyone touch my bald head! At the earliest it would have to be early next year as this series had to be filmed over 2-3 months. After his hair grows back he might go to China to film a new series to earn extra income so I’ve been happy recently. I went to America and Canada to perform which was really good because I’ve been able to earn some money. In China two of his series have already started airing and the audience has responded quite well. I watched myself again in the series and thought my performance was ok.” Ron thought he has been pretty lucky filming a few series letting him earn more and giving him an opportunity to act in more series. But he is still working hard to achieve his dream. He hopes to buy a huge house for his family to live more comfortably. Ron spent most of his time this year filming in China which meant he filmed a lot less HK series. “I thought this was a good thing because it has helped me see the actual China market. My series has aired in many places and I hope I will have an opportunity to emerge in the China market.” Filming in China Ron believes it has paid a price as he has been staying there for about half a year. “To film a series it takes about 2-3 months and together both series have taken me half a year. In the mainland I had no friends, only my manager and if I wasn’t filming I’d be studying the script. I rented many series to see the range of acting skills, life wasn’t too boring and I could focus solely on my work, it wasn’t bad.” Being unfamiliar with the area, not knowing the best restaurants wasn’t the best because when it came around to deciding meals it always gave Ron & his manager head-aches. Daily they would go to the near by for a Hot Pot at a familiar restaurant close by. “It’s good since I’m not picky with food and apart from the fatty greasy foods; I just ate whatever there was.” Wants to act with his idol Fat Brother (Chow Yun Fat) Ron’s idol is Chow Yun Fat, his wish is to be able to act with him. When it comes around to this he won’t stop talking about him. “Chow Yun Fat will always be my idol. When I hadn’t entered the industry, I would occasionally bump into him on the streets and take a picture with him. About 8 years ago I was in the Acting class and the teachers asked a professional actor to share their skills with us, when they opened the door I couldn’t believe it was Chow Yun Fat who came in! I was over the moon. He shared with us his experiences when he entered the industry, and even the students had many questions to ask! Before it ended we took a huge group photo with him”. 2-3 months ago Ron bumped into Chow Yun Fat again. “I was filming an outdoor Academy Full Throttle scene and we had the block off the roads to film so the cars had to park to one side. One of the drivers opened the window and laughed “If you want to film I’ll let you film”, we turned around and saw the driver was Chow Yun Fat with his mother, the whole group of us were surprised and really happy”. Asked if he would be able to meet up with Chow Yun fat and ask to work together, he laughed “No, because your partner depends on fate. He is so busy, he won’t work with me if I give a suggestion. I won’t be able to voice my opinion on whom I want to work it because the company decides. But if I’m able to work with him any day I’ll definitely be happy.” As for the character he said that filming with Chow Yun Fat would be enough, and he wouldn’t mind playing any role. “We don’t have to work in a series together, it could be on stage and I would be so happy.” Writer’s Postscript- Cold face comedian Ron was often in the sun when he was back in Hong Kong making him looked more tanned than before. And wearing that black jacket of his to do interviews, as an interview I would always think “Wah, so dark!” But that’s ok as his mood is just like the sun, always warm and answers the questions politely. Occasionally he shows the funny side of him “I love to play games in the sun.” Looking at his expression I just couldn’t help but laugh that Ron was a Cold Face Comedian! During this time I wasn’t able to ask about the series itself, but was just asking questions here and there. It was good as he spoke quite quickly and even talked like he was in a normal conversation. It was a 15 minute interview and this is what I’ve been able to write. Thank you.
