What do you guys think of Rosie's "Ching Chong" comments on "The View" TV show? Read the article or watch the video if you don't know what I'm talking about. http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=245087>1=7703 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuTspbPmV_g -noclue
i do agree that this is quite disrespectful, but come on. she's a comedian, and comedians make fun of everyone and everything. just look at Russell Peters (by the way, i love this guy.)
it wouldnt be offensive to me if it was meant as a joke but just proved how little her apology actually meant and shows that she's hypocritical.
I've always found it really offensive. Rosie's not the first to do that, and won't be the last. When I went to HK last summer, I met a bunch of exchange students from Holland, in HK to learn Chinese. They constantly made fun of the spoken language by walking by Chinese people and saying "ching ching ching chong..." I told them it was rude, but they thought it was a great joke. I find a lot of people think it's funny to act like that. And for Chinese Americans to stand up and take a stand, it just makes us look uptight and unable to take a joke. There's no winning.
personally, i'm not offended by what she said just cause i don't take racist comments seriously racial comments are never going to stop so you might as well take it as a joke and brush it off -^_^
I think people are pissed cause the tone in which she said it was bad, at least Russel Peters does a good job with his Canto accident and takes time to appreciate how it came about (which is probably why he does such a good impression of it) while Rosie has no regard to the chinese culture and makes more of a fool out of herself by not understanding the culture and looks like an idiot doing her impression
Hm, at first I thought, well, she is a comedian, she probably thought that it was funny, and I don't think she said that to be racist or rude, but to say ching chong, etc, is rude.. If she had made a sincere apology, it may have been something that could have been smoothed over easily, but for her to say, O, be warned that I might very well do it again?? That shows that she might as well have kept that flimsy apology to herself, because if you're truly apologetic that you've offended a whole nation and others, you'd know not to say that again..
Rosie O'Donnell? A half wit making a half ass reply for her cultural ignorance and insensitivity. What can you do about it? Write a complaint to ABC network; if they get enough complaints, they will force her to apologize properly & it will do some damage to her standing on the show. Otherwise, she'll just go on making an ass of herself. here's the link to the ABC's contact page: http://abc.go.com/site/contactus.html It's not wonder even the Donald blasted her on TV.
I agree with that. The first time I saw Russell Peters with his canto bit I actually thought it was funny and how it sounded like canto, unlike Rosie who sounds like a 6 year old trying to do it (In elementary I remember kids who tried to make fun of chinese people used to say ching chong).
i find it a bit offensive with the way she says it...it sounded like she's teasing or something...so not good...
what Rosie did was just fuckin stupidand should be fired, chinese ppl are easy to be picked on because we don't do anything. It's time for all us chinese ppl to do something when we get disrespected.
She's just a Fat Lesbian Racist. I've never thought that Roise O' Donnell was a good comedian at all. The whole shit with the "Ching Choung" shyt was out-of-date barely anyone uses that phrase.
hmm i guess thats true.. the whole bad attitude thing does kind of make it all pretty unforgiveable. =\
