After their 22-year-long, on-and-off relationship, 41-year-old Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文) has accepted 46-year-old Andy Hui’s (許志安) marriage proposal. The couple celebrated their engagement in Bali in late November with their family members and manager. The happy couple reportedly plans to hold a wedding party in Hong Kong next year. Sammi and Andy first began dating in 1991 and broke up in 2004. After a seven-year separation, they reconciled in 2011 and even vacationed in Japan together. Rumors of marriage have surfaced ever since, but the two have repeatedly denied such reports. Sammi in particular has long been opposed to the idea of getting married: in February 2012, she stated, “I currently don’t have plans to get married, and if my partner proposed to me in front of everyone, I would leave immediately.” This past October, however, Sammi revealed in an interview that there was definitely the possibility of marriage. “But I won’t notify everyone about it and would only announce it afterward,” she said. Yesterday, reporters asked Sammi for confirmation about the news, but she merely laughed in response and happily waved a hand at them, saying, “That’s enough photo taking!” Their manager Guo Qihua (郭啟華) initially denied the wedding news yesterday. However, this morning Guo confirmed that Sammi accepted Andy’s marriage proposal in August, “Andy Hui proposed to Sammi at her birthday party this year and finally succeeded. In November, Sammi, Andy and their families traveled to Bali, Indonesia to celebrate this. As their manager who has known them for a more than a quarter of a century, I have seen their relationship come to fruition after many ups-and-downs. I never thought Sammi would finally accept Andy’s proposal, so I feel very excited. However, as to when their [wedding] celebration will take place, I will let them announce it.” Guo also clarified that Sammi and Andy are only engaged and did not register their marriage in Bali. “Registering their marriage in Hong Kong will happen later.” The couple originally planned to announce their marriage plans on January 1, 2014, marking the New Year as a time for them to step into a new stage of life. However, the good news was recently leaked by Sammi’s older sister to her coworkers and close friends. Sammi and Andy are expected to hold a wedding celebration in Hong Kong next year, where they will invite more friends to join them in the celebration. Creds:ihktv
