The story goes like this a couple from hong kong decided to go on a short trip to shen zhen china for shopping or what not. The husband needed to use the bathroom and fearing on being mugged he handed his wallet and mobile to his wife, the husband went to use a public toilet and the wife waited outside for him. A few minutes later two men dressed in cleaners clothes walked out of the men's toilet pushing a steel trolley and on top of the trolley was a large blue tub (the ones you see in fish markets), along with some cleaning equipment like mops and brooms, the wife thought nothing of it. Time passed and still no sight of her husband so she asked a man who was about to enter the men's room to go check on her husband the man entered and came out and told her that no one was there, now the men's room had only one exit so it was impossible for her husband to leave the toilet without her knowing. Panicked she called the local police and when they arrived they asked her one questions and that was "Did you see anyone leaving the toilet with a large blue barrel?" the wife answered yes then the police officer said " Alright please return to hong kong, we'll try to find your husband but we must warn you that the chances of finding him alive are slim". Now what happened to the husband you might ask, you might have guessed it by now, the blue barrel that left the area actually was containing the husband his fate being shipped to a hospital to have his organs removed and sold in the black market.

Don't know if this is true or not but i'd never use a public toilet in China, would you?

The same could pretty much happened anywhere, just that many ASSUMES that Europe or America is safer than China... Which isn't necessarily the case.

I am just cautious when traveling regardless of destination (Japan being the only exception for some reason)

This is kind of like the Las-Vegas-get-a-drink-from-a-stranger-and-lose-your-kidney urban legend, not that it's UNTRUE, just that it's an isolated case which doesn't happen as often as people fear it does :p

I would say if it happens, it would be more likely happening in rural China... But then again, the relative amount of visitors to rural China is so minimal in comparison to the cities.

I really doubt the veracity of this anecdote, this seems to be another type of news like the ones about chinese eating babies.

I think for america and europe you'd have to be super super rich to pull off something like that because all donated organs are registered. Dont know what its like in china tho

I believe the organ trade is more notorious in China compared to the western countries. People sell their organs our of sheer poverty. And because of that, the prices of organs are relatively cheaper in places like China, India or even Africa. Besides, reinforcement of the laws are not exactly strict in these places, that's why it's a booming business. While there's no doubt that it CAN also happen in Europe or America, I'm sure the incidence is much lower.

I see your point, but my point with that particular post was to point out how totally random it could have been geographically, because it's an URBAN LEGEND (much like the lose-your-kidney-at-Las-Vegas-after-getting-a-drink-from-an-attractive-stranger myth). I don't deny that it's more likely to be happening in China, but if anyone's counting, the case per 1,000,000 people rate is probably similar to any European countries.

Everything became a huge issue in China because of the "economy of scale" :p It's shocking to know that one person got himself slashed to pieces and sold on the black market, it becomes a whole new level of scary when one can say "it happens so often that the police guessed it by the look of it".

shen zhen china is the cheapest and
    nearest crossing to Hong Kong.
    very sleazy place.
    the main crossing point
has a railroad and bus station.
friends say it is only way for locals
Hong Kong people to visit canton.
as the express trains are very expensive.
