im building a comp, and im not sure if i should use the one that goes with the case this is the case Cooler Master™ Centurion 5, Black, Aluminum Bezel , SECC, USB 2.0 x 2, IEEE 1394 (FireWire) x1, Micx1, Speakerx1,ATX, Micro ATX, 5 x 5.25" Bays, 6x 3.5" Bays, Supports 1x 80mm Front & 1x 120mm Rear Fan - 430W V2.0 Coolermaster PSU V2 (CAC-T05-UWI) planing to get pentium core 2 duo E6600 SATA II 250g hardrive 2x1GIG RAM 640mb 8800GT DVD drive.. gigabyte GS3P motherboard now i calculated some where, cant exaclty remeber,, it cold draw up to 400W i think i was playin around with it, adding more harddrives 100% CPU usage, 10% PSU capci... aging do u think my 430W PSU will do? im mainly using this comp for games, some architecture 3D graphics modeling...rendering ive always wondered what happens if the comp needs to draw more? does teh comp shut down?
if you worked it out to be roughly 400w then it should be ok. the one thing i would check is that your case is big enough to accommodate future upgrades. bearing in mind i haven't looked up your case, let's say in the future you realise that you need 600 or 700w but your case is too small, the only viable option would be spending a couple of hundred dollars on a new case & psu or a couple of thousand dollars on a new comp. getting another psu now would safe guard you ( some what ) should you decide say 1 week later you want another dvd drive or whatever. i guess the bottom line is, plan for both short term and long term. if you're happy to buy a computer every 2years then you're good, if you want your computer to last, spend a bit more now and you'll more less be better off in the future
skywalka for now is ok.. i mean unless when u have some problem while gaming then buy a more powerful PSU. nice video card --; BTW Coolermaster is a good brand. most good PSU will restart your PC.. which will make no harm. But since u spend that much $$ on your PC.. i mean why not get a more power PSU?
oooo 8800GT your just at the edge of ok and not ok. i reckon you should go for a 500-600W PSU, that way your 100% safe and has room for more HDDs or more powerful GFX card later
with a psu, u always want a sufficient one. i mean it it goes, it can take out your your entire system. you got some good recommendations above.
Go @ least 500W but Amps on 12V are also important. I am going to run my 320MB 8800GTS on 380W with 34A on 12V rail. It will probably work if you don't overclock. but 500W is safe. The 8800 comsumes about 100W . The Core 2 consumes 65W on stock. If the PSU can't handle it, it won't just shut down. Its gunna blow! And take all your components with it.
With that kind of cash you have I'd recommend investing in a decent 500W+ antec or similar quality brand psu
since wen was there pentium core duos =P pentiums dead already! seeing that ur spending so much on ur graphics card, ur better off spending more to get a decent psu and case to ensure sufficient cooling it seems that u've got ur general idea of stuff u want tho for more opinions from every1 else, u should specifically post the brand and model for each of the parts and wat do u really want out of the system? performance? stability? looks? are u planning to o/c to get the most out of the system?
Seasonic, & Antecs are reputable. Personally id buy a 600W, to be super safe. scrap that go for a 1KW monster!!!! and dual 8800GTXs -lol
oh yeh seasonic is well known for stability as well. antec's are good, im using the antec neohe 550w. specs: E6300 Conroe 1.86Ghz@2.8Ghz w/ Scythe Infinity Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI Corsair 2x512mb 6400 XMS2 HIS X1800GTO unlocked 16pipelines 2x Seagate 250GB SATA Pioneer 111D DVD Drive been running this rig 24/7 ever since the conroe's came out. had no problems with it. so happy
Don't get Antec Smartpower series of PSUs. They have a bad rep. If you are getting a Antec, get a Neo, Trio, or Earthwatts.
yah the neo's are good =) in the end, u get what u pay for for stability and quality, theres no substitute and if u think abt it, if the crappy psu's die couple of times, thats the same cost as a single good one
