Beauty queen, Sonija Kwok (郭羡妮), gave a pleasant surprise to her fans and the press when she announced her marriage with mainland Chinese action choreographer, Zhu Shaojie (朱少杰), in 2011. In May 2012, the 39-year-old gave birth to their first child, daughter Kylie Zhu. With Shaojie frequently in mainland China due to work, Sonija lives with her mother in Hong Kong so that Kylie will have more attentive care. A few months after giving birth to Kylie, Sonija was cast in the 2013 Lunar New Year drama The Day of Days <初五啟市錄>, starring opposite Sunny Chan (陳錦鴻). Sonija’s comeback was claimed to be due to financial troubles as her husband was said to be unemployed around the time of Kylie’s birth. Sonija denied the allegations, expressing that though her family is not particularly wealthy, they are financially stable. Recently, a magazine revealed that Sonija has been turning down television drama and endorsement offers in the past six months to dedicate time to the family. A source claimed that Sonija was originally cast in a mainland Chinese Qing dynasty drama with Ada Choi (蔡少芬), but turned it down despite the hefty fee. Sonija has been enjoying spending more time with Kylie and watching her grow, often sharing photos of their shopping trips on Weibo. On October 1, Sonija and Kylie were seen on the streets of Shanghai. Celebrating their second wedding anniversary, Sonija visited Shaojie and his family.
