Sony Begins PS3 Component Testing Analysts are still unsure if Sony can still meet the 2006 holiday season launch According to reports, Sony is now entering testing phases for PlayStation 3 components. Although it is currently unknown exactly what is being tested, this points to a sign that Sony may meet its intended 2006 holiday season launch. Sony was previously reported to be redesigning the controller for the PlayStation 3, citing that something innovative has to occur. On the other side, Nintendo's unique approach to game control with its dual component remote system is definitely a direction away from the norm. Sony has a traditional record of being late with product launches, and much of the same occurred with the launch of the original PlayStation 2. However, Sony is able to gain quick market acceptance due to the sheer number of publishers that support its consoles. We reported this week that Sony is also slashing the price of its PlayStation 2 down to $129 from $149. Some analysts are predicting that while Sony may have begun testing PlayStation 3 components, it may be too late to meet the holiday launch. Sony itself expects to be producing 1 million PlayStation 3 a month at launch. Source: DailyTech
