If the name Stanley Cheung (張景淳) does not sound very familiar to you, maybe the name “Ka Ming” from TVB’s When Heaven Burns <天與地> will ring a bell.

The 32-year-old Stanley Cheung was introduced to TVB through the TVbeople talent casting audition in 2006, winning a TVB artist contract with Sammy Sum (沈震軒), Angel Chiang (蔣家旻), and five other contestants. Stanley hosted TVB’s Scoop <東張西望> program for two years before scoring his first major television role,When Heaven Burns’ Ka Ming, in late 2009. When Heaven Burns aired two years later to critical acclaim.

“[Ka Ming] was my first major role, and I was very, very happy to be able to do it. I had the chance to work with so many seniors and professionals. My very first scene was with Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼). It was nerve-racking and exciting, but [Charmaine] really knew how to get me in the mood. She is very humble and kind.”

Stanley’s successful performance as Ka Ming earned him more major supporting roles in other notable television dramas, including Reality Check <心路GPS> and Beauty at War <金枝慾孽貳>. Although both dramas did not fare extremely well in viewership ratings, both dramas were critically acclaimed.

“Maybe people mistook Beauty at War to be a palace drama about power struggles, so when they realized that it was about something else entirely, they were a bit disappointed.”

Truthfully, TVB was not Stanley’s first shot in the entertainment industry. In 2003, Stanley debuted in the scene as a member of the award-winning boy band Cheers, which were once managed by Andy Lau’s (劉德華) former record label, Catchy Entertainment.

“I flew back to Hong Kong from Vancouver to sign with Catchy, and I debuted as a member of Cheers. We released an album, but because of a lawsuit, we had to disband.”

Stanley’s singing dreams have not faded and the actor hopes for the opportunity to become a “double threat” in the industry. “I will be joining a singing competition [The Voice 4] in the future. I hope to be able to pursue both acting and singing careers in the future!”
