Stephen Chan: TVB suffering in silence; No power to boycott singers

TVB and HKRIA started fighting because of royalties problems, causing I-cable and ATV to profit from it, getting the big 4 production companies' singers appearances, breaking TVB's monopoly. TVB's manager Stephen Chan thinks TVB has been misunderstood and can only suffer in silence (啞子吃黃連) as there was no boycott from their side.

Still has divergences with the big 4

Yesterday, as Stephan Chan got interviewed by Commercial Radio's Cha Xiaoxin, he stated that the royalties issue hasn't had any real improvement yet, but both sides had given out different solutions and there are still divergences, they are looking for a solution that they can both accept. About Jacky Cheung inviting ATV to his press conference, Stephen Chan says that press conferences had always welcomed all the members of the press and Jacky isn't contracted to TVB. The only point he wants to clarify is that people kept on saying that TVB is despotic, boycotting the 4 companies's singers, that is not true.
Stephen Chan says "TVB welcomes singers to appear, but maybe because the royalties issue is not solved yet, the Labels aren't arranging anything for the moment. I insist once more that TVB doesn't have the power to boycott any artists, so about those critics from the outside world, we can only suffer in silence (啞子吃黃連)."

    ATV: Royalties are legitimate

The royaties issue is said to have breached TVB's monopoly. Stephen Chan stated that there is no breach or no talk. Actually, many singers aren't contracted with TVB. It's only that nowadays, there are more of them making other choices. Stephen says that TVB will present "Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards" tonight without any problem. The only thing they had RTHK promise was to let RTHK handle all the royalties issues for the night and they wrote out an agreement for insurance.

I-Cable admits to have profitted from it

ATV's Ye Jiabao pointed out that the royalties HKRIA had been asking ATV had alway been fair and legitimate, both sides never had any conflict over that, so they made use of this opportunity to increase the cooperations with the 4 big companies. Hu Rong-Qing also admitted that after this conflict started, I-Cable had many profits and could break the existent monopoly.
