Hey anyone else live in england. Stupid parliment rushed through with stupid law. I hope clause 11 is dropped. if not if anyone is suspected of piracy will have the net cut off. only good thing is claus 18 was dropped meaning they cant block websites
clause 8 allows the blocking of websites (not as easily as clause 18) Clause 17 of the Digital Economy Bill (The Henry VII Clause) allows the Secretary of State to rewrite the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act without running it through Parliament. Clause 11 allows the Secretary of State to order 'technical measures' to cut off or limit the connectivity of anyone for unspecified times. These 'technical measures' could be to block access to websites and services at an individual or generic level. Clause 6 could allow "copyright holders" to write the Code of Practice which will dictate how ISPs have to work with them and for Ofcom to approve it without any scrutiny from Parliament. ISPs will face heavy fines (£25,000+) for non-compliance - which means they're forced to install the deep packet inspection tech that China and Iran use to permit heavy censorship. This has been put in place for a reason, they control the media, now they are working towards controlling the internet.
If you don't bittorrent you should be fine since the act targets a selective group such as those that upload thus if you don't use BT and apps like kaaza, bearshare, limewire, etc (p2p) you will survive. But yeah I agree that there are better ways to go against piracy than this but meh you can't win against privacy as it's always there **looks at the failure DRM**. Plus it not like US is that better off **stares at comcast** so anyway I'm surprised they (music/film industries) haven't targeted the US since most of the bittorrent traffic is from there, UK is like small compared to the US. As this stands I don't really like the way this has been passed so lib dems will be getting my vote in May instead of labour and conservatives. Also VPN???
hmm... i think the net being cut off for suspected people is not going to go through. cos a lot of people hide their ips if they use those type of programs. also, it's not been completely passed yet. it will take some time still. besides it's also very hard for isps to implement and will cost them a lot of money so i don't see them rele putting it in place unless the government helps pay for it as i can't see the music industries paying for it. having said that i don't even see the point, i don't think that this will increase the number of people buying music. if garbage is out there people are not going to buy it anyway. also, there's spotify and i think there will be a trend to moving to streaming music unless the music is rele good.
hmm... i think the net being cut off for suspected people is not going to go through that did go through but it may not be implemented cause the government always pass the stupidest things before elections to make them look good and get more votes but they dont always go through with it cause of costs and stuff. so untill people get cut off from the net im not gonna worry anymoe
the system is implemented is other countries and all it does is cause people who do illegal/questionable activities to use proxies. its non-tech kids/adults who will get caught out
