Dubbed as The Greatness of a Hero <盛世仁傑> part two , TVB’s new period political drama King Maker <造王者> is slated to premiere on August 13th in Hong Kong. Starring Hong Kong Film Award winner, Kent Cheng (鄭則士), and two-time TV King, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), the historical thriller focuses on the conspiracies and struggles between two powerful chancellors in the imperial Southern Song court, each competing to have their favored prince become the successor of the emperor’s throne.

After committing an unforgivable social blunder, government official Yu Bok Man (Cheung Kwok Keung 張國強) and his family were given a death sentence. Although his children managed to escape the punishment together, they were eventually separated. Second son, Yu Sai Wing (Patrick Tang 鄧健泓) was deceived into becoming an eunuch and was castrated, suffering humiliation and oppression. Youngest daughter Yu Ching* (Natalie Tong 唐詩詠) loses her memory, but is fortunately adopted by Yim Sam Leung (Kristal Tin 田蕊妮), leader of the underground Cho Sect.

Eldest son Yu Jing (Wayne Lai) enters the imperial court and works his way to become the king’s left hand chancellor, also befriending the experienced right-hand chancellor Tung Chiu (Kent Cheng).

The emperor’s two sons, elder prince Chiu Kwai Sing (Pierre Ngo 敖嘉年) and second prince Chiu Kwai Wo (Lai Lok Yi 黎諾懿), both greedily compete for the throne. Jing and Chiu become enemies after Jing mistakes Chiu to have betrayed his own father for power. Jing, who supports the succession of the elder prince, decides to get help from cunning court official Yeung Chi San (Joseph Lee 李國麟) to dispose Chiu and the second prince. The fight for the throne becomes a war between fire and water, brandishing out an intense battle of wits.

The 28-episode drama is produced by Leung Choi Yuen (梁材遠), who also produced TVB’s recent political thrillers The Greatness of a Hero and The Life and Times of a Sentinel <紫禁驚雷>. Kingdom Yuen (苑瓊丹), Florence Kwok (郭少芸), Elaine Yiu (姚子羚), and Kwok Fung (郭峰) also star in King Maker.
