Why did the communist government choose the Saigon city and not other city to be rename to HCM city? Anyway, so far lots of HCM city resident are still calling this city as Saigon!
Use the historical name is definitely the best. I am sure Ho Chi Minh's name is better served elsewhere in the nation's soul! However having said this after sometime it is acceptable eg. look at the example of Washington Victoria But you are right, Ho Chi Minh girl the name definitely has no sex appeal. In any case in practice, Saigon girl is still in use.

The reason for the change is quite obvious, it's a Chinese translated name (Chinese origin). As Vietnam continues to develop, it would like to identify itself as "VIETNAMESE"; no relation to the Chinese whatsoever. HCM is the leader and is worldly known so why not .. The last time I visited Vietnam, it was still predominantly "Chinese" in HCM. Nothing has really changed beside the place itself. Quite frankly, I kinda miss the "OLD" Saigon with all the good stuffs everywhere you turn but the clean-up have driven small businesses or on the cart away from a lot of neighborhoods. Very sad but it's cleaner now. Still gotta work on the "traffics" cuz there's nothing to really protect pedestrians crossing the streets.
they changed the name of the city cuz SaiGon was captured by the communism , and the communist used their leader name for the city. but anyway, now u can still said saigon girl , saigon boy , who care . The 2 words " SAI GON" is history for the world (that my opinion)
Every fken thing in vietnam from highway to railway to airport or whatever are named after ho chi minh which is a shame. Hes just a fag who brought communism into the country
i think the reason why they change it to HCM city is b/c of HCM they said Ho Chi Minh is like the father of the country, he find out the way to help the country. that's wat i heard of, not sure cuz i didn't learn vnmese history lol
