Talented Scholar Moses Chan Meets Sassy Girlfriend Myolie Wu
(NOTE: Only Myolie parts are translated)

Season Of Love, which started from on Valentine’s Day, 14 February, extended all the way to the Chinese Valentine’s Day, and carried on to 14 March, representing that the White Valentine’s Day where the males returned the gift of love back to the females has ended. Did everyone grab hold of this chance during the romance month to express your love for the other party? Is it a happy ending? But if one finds out that the other party is actually the transformation of a sassy girlfriend, then how to deal with this situation? For this question, you have to ask advice from Moses Chan, this newly-appointed Tong Bak Fu, then on how he tackled Myolie Wu’s version of kungfu Chau Heung lah!

The new drama, In The Eye Of The Beholder, is currently airing, and has twisted the tradition around. It changed the original story of the three smiles marriage destiny between the flirtatious talented scholar, Tong Bak Fu, and Chau Heung. Now, under the enlightenment of the angry Chau Heung, it made Tong Bak Fu realize the reason behind doing a part for the country. Such a special version of this story, in the end, was it that the flirtatious scholar, Tong Bak Fu, whom pacified Chau Heung, or was it that the different Chau Heung tamed Tong Bak Fu? Let the new pairing, Moses Chan and Myolie Wu, unravel this puzzle for us!

Myolie Wu – Swordswoman Chau Heung

Just by looking at the drama title, one should know that this version of Chau Heung is no longer the traditional type! In the past, the feeling that Chau Heung gave people was that she’s gentle and meticulous, and the most doted upon maid in Wah household, making Tong Bak Fu fall in love with her at first sight. But this time, Myolie Wu’s Chau Heung is different from the tradition. She had transformed into a highly-skilled martial arts fighter, and became the security guard in the Wah household. Changing from weak to strong, Myolie acted a really different Chau Heung.

    Refreshing Make-over

This time, Chau Heung had a more modern feel. Other than having a very modern feel ancient costume-image, she was also highly-skilled in martial arts. From being passively wooed by Tong Bak Fu, till she enlightened Tong Bak Fu in anger. “The character this time round is different from the past. Normally, the feeling that Chau Heung gives people is that she’s a quiet person. But this time, the producer, Lau Ka Ho, wanted to add some new elements into Chau Heung. My version of Chau Heung is very gentle too at normal situations, but when protecting the people in the Wah household, I’ll be the first to stand out and defeat the enemy. Actually, it’s quite fun having fighting scenes this time. Because there’s this new additional element, it gives people a different feeling. In addition, Lau Ka Ho is good at filming this kind of light-hearted comedies like The Gentle Crackdown. Though Stephen Chow’s movie is very popular and we’re prepared that this will be compared to his movie, this drama is still after all being acted by a different cast, thus there will be different chemistry sparks. So I’ve a certain level of anticipation towards this series. Hope that the audience can have a good time watching it!”

    Putting In Painful Hard Work

To become the new Chau Heung, Myolie also put in a lot of hard work beforehand. She specially learnt kungfu from a teacher, in order to do well in the fighting scenes in the drama. “Before the filming started, I learnt kungfu from a teacher for around a month. I practiced for 3 to 4 hours everyday. Initially, the training was very difficult, because the joints of my legs had not been warmed up yet. Each time when the practice ended, I also felt aches in my waist and back. But gradually, the muscles in the legs started to get flexible, and I could kick my leg higher too. In the end, I could do a split-leg pose. It felt really satisfactory, and found the fun part in learning kungfu. When filming the fighting scenes, I felt like I was dancing. The final effects were very stylish too, and I felt that the past hard work which I had put in was worthwhile. Though I’m now busy with work and seldom practise kungfu, but if I’m free, I’ll continue to learn on.
    Captions (clockwise):
    1) In order to avoid being the shadow of the past actors who had acted Tong Bak Fu, thus Moses Chan avoided watching the past works and acted it out his own way
    2) The temple’s fortune-teller scene was a classic one, thus it’s also included in this new drama. Though I had not watched how the others had acted in this scene, I felt that it’s filled with comedic feel.
    3) “In the past, there’s definitely a scene of ‘Tong Bak Fu picking Chau Heung’. In this new drama, there’s such a scene too. But there’s also another scene where Chau Heung enlightened Bak Fu. It’s non-traditional.”
    4) Though Myolie had many fighting scenes in the drama, she said that she did her preparation well to protect herself. Thus she didn’t get hurt during filming.

    New Partner At Comedy

Working in a comedy with Moses Chan for the first time, they portrayed a bickering couple. What Myolie didn’t expect most was that Moses’ comedic sense was very strong, thus often making her laugh. “Moses has comedic talent. His sense of comedy is very strong. Sometimes, just by an eye expression, he can make me laugh already. There’s a scene talking about the princess, acted by Fala, trying to play tricks on Moses and I. She tried to force us to eat a raw-food feast. When Moses fed me with the food, which looked like wheat-skin worms, with a mischievous expression, I really didn’t know what kind of response I should give him! I often think that if Chau Heung really meets Moses’ kind of funny Tong Bak Fu, before he manages to win her heart, she might probably laugh to death!” If in reality, she really meets a crazy pursuer like Tong Bak Fu, how will she handle the situation? “Really don’t know. In the past, most of them only sent flowers or soft toys. I think that by wooing too passionately might scare away the girl instead.”

    Mainland Information

Recently, we seldom see Myolie on TV. The reason is that she has gone to Shanghai to take part in a Mainland series, Happy Mother-in-law Pretty Daughter-in-law.
“This drama is a little similar to WOIL. It’s a comedy talking about the conflicts between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. The weather in Shanghai is very unpredictable. Often rains. The temperature can vary very differently too. So I was careless and fell ill twice. But this time, other than filming with a group of Mainland artistes, I also can work with Ng Man Tat, Kingdom Yuen and other Hong Kong artistes. This drama will wrap up filming in Mid-March. After that I’ll return to Hong Kong and take part in the promotional functions of In The Eye Of The Beholder. I’ll also prepare for the filming of the new drama in April, and will once again meet with the Hong Kong audience.”

Myolie and Moses seldom cooperate. To be able to act in a comedy together this time, she then discovers that Moses has a comedic talent that will make people laugh to their death.
