She is accused of giving the petitioner a poke on Facebook, the most basic level of communication on the social networking website that allows a user to make themselves known to another without sending a message. The Tennessean says local police have taken a screengrab of Ms Jackson's computer clearly showing she poked the woman in question. She faces a year in prison and a $2,500 fine if found guilty at a court appearance later this month. -what?
Are you serious? Well I'm pretty sure she won't be guilty of her charge... or else the justice system is pretty messed up... Whoever accused her is just wasting tax-payers money
i can't help but laugh my ass off on this thread .. seriously, people like this person here should get a kick in the ass for wasting our tax dollars .. must've gotten a lot of time on the hand to be doing this type of shit.
I think that is assuming facebook poke is consider to be a so call "Physical Poke" contact then it would be seen as an offense and where the (a year in prison and a $2500 fine) comes from... That's why I highly doubt the defender would be guilty because it's ridiculous
It is not the simple "poke" but rather knowledge that someone is electronically stalking you in contravention of an order of protection that is at stake here. With a telephone it would be ringing your number once, and then hanging up. The simplicity of the communication is meaningless in this regard. The suspect was ordered by the court not to do so, but in clear and direct violation of the court order, she purposely communicated with the victim. IMHO, charge her and jail her for the full sentence AND fine her the full amount. I personally don't think of this as frivolous nor do I consider protection of a victim to be a waste of the tax payers dollars. She could have just looked at the facebook page and did nothing, but instead, she purposely sent her victim a ping; why? To let her know that she was there. This was an direct attempt at an act of intimidation (ie. in effect, she communicated to the victim: "I'm watching you"), but she got caught red handed. Jail time is appropriate here.
well then, i sorta half to agree with Ralph here..... she did violate the orders binding her against any form of unavoidable communication.

Even though it may seem frivolous, a simple "poke" obviously states that the person has a way to "watch you". If it were me (being stalked), I'd be pretty freaked, and wondering what else the strange lady has been tracking down. I guess psychologically, it will affect the person as well.
