don't you just hate it when people say that? i mean, i'll admit, i used to say that a lot too... but now that i think about it, it's so disrespectful. why must we use the word "gay" to substitute "stupid", "idiotic", or w/e? but then again, many words have changed meanings over the last couple of decades/centuries. "dumb" (which means mute) now means unintelligent, and so on. what do you think about this "that's so gay" phrase and do you say it too?
its a fad just like all the others..yet we still use it...like u said...its lost some of it meaning...
I totally agree with you. It really annoys me when people use the word gay as a negative connotation. It just shows how disrespectful and truly ignorant they are. Sure, the user may mean no harm... but using this word in substitute for other negative words just sends out the wrong message. I mean, how would you feel if people said "that's so Chinese" or "that's so _____(fill in the blank with your race)..."? It really doesn't take too many functioning brain cells to see that this phrase is hurtful. By the way, the rate of suicide among gay teens is 2.5 times that of straight young people. It's sad really... :( As for words losing their meaning over time... I guess that's the problem with using mainstream words for political purposes. "Gay" used to mean happy and carefree before the homosexuals started applying it to themselves. They didn't really think that straight people would start applying that meaning to them. People basically dropped the original meaning from their vocabulary and used it for other purposes.
whats wrong with that saying ^ ive used a few times -lol but i think using the phrase 'thats so gay' is qute old now.... i didnt think people use it anymnore plus i think its quite an immature ohrase to use....... as it was a hit phrase to use when i was in primary school

I use it all the time. I say stupid, idiotic as well, but *shrug* I guess I use that's so gay more often... I say that around friends the most, so they know I mostly mean stupid. I have a friend who is gay, but they don't mind when I use that either. Depends on how you say it.

lol i use that phrase quite a lot too and i mean it when i acutally using the word "gay" the correct form is actually "ghey" not "gay" meaning stupid, imbecile, etc... but ppl just use gay for the sake of simplicity and to exggerate the meaning of the expression. ** correct me if i m wrong tho **
"ur gay" is just one of those ones outhere that isnt really thatt bad..compared to some i've heard...
again, im sure a lot of people don't mean it in the bad way when they say "that's so gay", but why gay? sure, its a short word and is 'convenient'... but how hard is it to add one extra syllable? and i dont think it exaggerates anything. i just think its rude and totally unnecessary. haha i must sound like one of those angry people on forums. =P

hey, i have gay friends. some are weird haha (but arent we all?). and since we're (kinda) on the topic of hated phrases, the phrase i hate the MOST is "your mom". i believe someone made a topic about some girl calling him mean cuz he said that? yeah, not cool.
