    Cast:
    Gam Woo Sung (Left)
    Jung Jin Young (Center)
    Lee Joon Ki (Right)

    Plot:
The story takes place during the time of the most detested King in Korean history: King Yeonsan's rule was one of the most catastrophic in Korean history. His lascivious and tyrannical rule (1494~1506) is still remembered today and it is believed that he had serious psychological problems.

The story starts by following two clowns (or jesters/minstrels) during their every day life. Jang-Sang and Gong-gil decide to leave their troupe and go to Seoul. Jang Sang has always taken care of Gong-gil. He was the man with the skills and guts; Gong-gil was the feminine and quiet one. However, due to Gong-gil's androgynous looks, it seems that every man is attracted to him in some way, and Jang Sang takes it upon himself to defend Gong-gil's innocence. The story truly picks up when Jang-Sang and Gong-gil's new Seoul troupe wins the favour of King Yeonsan with a play that satirizes the King.

Soon, the King is interested in Gong-gil, which leads to the jealousy of Jang Sang and the King's mistress, Noksu. Questions about social position, sexuality and private life are raised. The presence of the minstrels prove to be a catalyst in an uprising and revolution...

    Notes:
At the moment, Wang-ui Namja is one of the highest grossing movies in Korean history. Grossing over $85,000,000 in domestic receipts with 12.3 million viewers, it even surpassed Silmido and Taegukgi. Production costs were relatively modest for a Korean film, approximately $4.5 million dollars.

So there must be something about this movie that made the people swarm, eh?

I thought it was a rather good movie. Everyone plays their roles as they ought to be played. A bit of comedy, cheekiness and wit mixed in with the drama and tragedy. Apparently, much praise were given to the main supporting characters who play the three main members of Jang-Sang's Seoul troupe. They were the ones who gave the audience a reason to laugh, a reason to cry in one of the touching moments during the movie.

I had never heard of or known of Lee Joon Ki before this movie. All i can say is he is rather well selected, and I couldn't think of many other Korean actors who would be able to pull off his role and LOOK the part as well.

Personally, I have never seen Taegukgi nor Silmido, but have heard much about them. Not sure I would totally understand why this film got so big...

i believe that the king and the clown is the newest grossing movie in korean history film. i heard it was pretty good but didn't watch it becuase there is no main girl character in the movie it mainly consists of guys. and i know that the guy on the right looks like a girl but he isn't. he looks cuter in modern films. he was in the drama my name is kim sam soon as the guy who liked the main character girl.
