Of course. But seriously, $2,800 and you'll still want to add on a SSD and bigger drive. Not that many people can really drop $3k+ for a gaming laptop.
I rather get this if I had a choice, for performance and cheaper without care of size for carrying and looks - http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Xplorer_X7_Xtreme_S2_Notebook/ GT 555M is also a middle class graphics card. So not that sleak performance wise in comparison to the X7 above, seems overpriced and you can also get a similar performance (or better) notebook for under 2K depending on your choices on the CP's configurator. Like to mention that the X7 is also the most expensive gaming notebook CP has to offer lol. Although the 480 x 800 LCD trackpad is cool but not worth the extra 1K in my opinion ..... so yeah overpriced is overpriced =p
It's not that overpriced. Its like the MBP, people are paying more for the sexy unibody than hardware. In this case, you get better hardware than a MBP with fairly good build quality. The one you linked to is ugly and chunky as hell. Doesn't make it a bad comp, its just not aesthetically pleasing. Anyways, I'm more curious how this thing will handle the heat under load. The big gaming laptops are big and chunky because they need to be sufficiently cooled, this ones a bit thinner and lighter I wonder how well it'll fair. If the $2800 base model came with an SSD, upgraded 1920x1200 display and maybe a 570M then it would be better value Also, the one you linked is using older hardware, not even sandybridge. Its probably hotter.
Maybe true with some people (not overpriced) if they think it's worth it but the reasoning why I was so bitchy on it being overpriced; since I know if I am in need of a gaming notebook, I won't get this as for one I know I can get it for much cheaper or a better performance one at a lower cost (I'm a cheap fag cuz I'm not rich and If I did get it; I probably kick myself in the end for doing so =p). As the thing that stuck me most was "gaming notebook" in the article. Thus with the addition of the mindset of a gamer looking for a gaming notebook, I am pretty sure most would rather performance than looks which is also at a lower price plus it would last longer as notebooks aren't that upgradable. In my opinion, I think it's pretty stupid paying for stuff at more insane price especially for stuff that is similar in capabilities ** Looks at Alienware **. Don't get me started on these brand names lol (e.g, 2 completely same things .... you name it .... but of course different brands). But with things that are slightly different like the MBP, in this case mainly cuz of looks and justifies the extra price you are paying, then good for you .... it's probably something I probably never buy. This is becuase like I said, I'm cheap and hunt down the best price but of course If I was rich and have money to spend, my mindset would be something completely different lol. The intention of the X7 EX link was an example of something at a insane price with hardware more focussed on performance for a gamer's needs which is cheaper than Razer and I missed out on that CPU lol. But to be fair the Core i7-2640M CPU isn't even released yet as far as I know so obviously won't be available on CP's config. Everything else is agreeable though at the price for performance especially the high end GPU. Ideally the X7-7500 would be something that is slightly on par or a tad lower with the Razer performance wise ... should have linked this instead =p. At a price tag of 1.7K more just because of the looks and extra sexyness ... to me I don't it's worth it -tongue2. Although with all this said back to reality instead of my 'ifs', I personally would not ever get a high-end expensive notebook just for my gaming needs due to overheating or adequate cooling issues as you said hence the fatness on the X7 EX lol; I have my future desktop for that so will never look into a notebook purely for gaming. The reason for future part was cuz I was saving for a uber desktop but am set back more now and had to get another notebook to replace my dead fucker T____T which I also needed for my work. So looked for something cheap that also allowed me to game now and again and ended up with a CP X6-7300. I actually tried running the the first Witcher at near high settings (recommended by the software) @ max res of 1366 x 768 and temperatures were like quite unhealthy looking if I ran it for long periods lol ..... noting the fact this is a small notebook. Think the CPU for all cores were at 75-80 while the GPU was at 75. So for something like the X7 EX with high end performance GPU's would justify the extra fatness. But I do understand Razer's goal of trying to balance portability, performance and looks hence perhaps the lower performance. However like I said as a gamer looking for performance and a gaming notebook, this won't likely be his cup of tea due to the performance side with the addition of the higher price tag unless the sexyness is important to him =p. But whatever at the end of the day depends on what is important to you; looks, price, performance, brand, portability, etc.
I agree with almost everything you said there lol. To be honest, I don't get why people NEED a gaming laptop. What's the point in spending over $3k to play a $60 game for at best, 30 min when you're on the go. I'd rather get a good desktop for about $1500-2000 and spend the remaining amount on a good sound system or a nice monitor. I'm curious as to why people want to be able to game on the move. For people in University, you shouldn't really try to squeeze in as much gaming time as you can lol. For people still in highschool, you definitely don't deserve or need a $3k laptop, especially if you don't even have a job. For people who're working and/or have a family, your time would be well spent elsewhere.
lol i would like if they made like a 14 inch gaming laptop that looks sexy and slick etc but a 17 inch probably should stay at home anyways so i dont see how a slick and sexy 17 inch lappy that is designed specifically for gaming is appealing. It makes you look like a geek!
Interesting move by razer here. They stuffed alot into that slim case. Mind you, they still have to polish her off.
way too overpriced, real gamers would use a mouse making that changing button and trackpad as 2nd screen useles
To be honest, the Blade does indeed look quite attractive. The slim chassis could be quite convenient for gamers who move around a lot, it would probably be reasonably durable too with that aluminum case. The LCD touchscreen and auxiliary buttons are very cool as well. However, at a price range of 2.7k, it is obscenely over priced. Seems to me like Razer is selling their product on appearances rather than functionality. A gaming laptop with similar specifications can be bought for a much lower price (though they are usually fairly big in size). Also, i imagine that the LCD touchscreen and auxiliary buttons would need custom profiles for each different game. Razer could probably provide updates to the Blade`s touchscreen throughout it`s lifespan. If, however, it does not, and Razer stops after a year or two, then the usability of the touchscreen would probably be fairly limited unless of course you are willing to set your own hot keys, create your own graphics, etc. On a side note, Razer`s marketing for the Blade has really irritated me.
